Being TV free is key. Often I get books from the library, sometimes themed to what we are "studying" and read together (nursing/bedtimes/break from other routines) The more you do as a group the better. Each kid will get what they can out of it and many projects can be tailored to different ages.

Amazingly I get a lot of my best hsing done in the late afternoon before I cook dinner! I also sometimes put little ones to bed and then help older ones on an assignment. My third child would stay up until 11 after my older boys went to bed (they were used to going to bed by 7:30 year round) and was the opnly child for a while each night then he'd sleep until 10-10:30 the next morning., I would get a lot done with the older two then. I also coop with other parents to lighten my load.
