Hello all,

This is a quick post as I am just home from the NICU to take a shower.

Lillian was born at 9:01pm Friday May 27th at Andulaz Waterbirth Center in Tualitan, OR. She weighted 7lbs 1 1/2 oz. and measured 20 1/2 inches long.

She has high respitory rate that didn't go away in the first 24 hours so she was transfered to the OHSU, neo-natal unit late Saturday night. She is still there as we are waiting for the results of a blood culture and she is needing to increase her fluid intake and get through a mild bought of jaundice.

I am pumping and nursing her as much as I can tolerate so that she gets most of her fluid from me. The rest is being supplemented via IV as I am adamant that she get nothing by mouth but breast milk. That is a real fight each time she gets a new nurse I have to explain my position all over again.

I will give y'all a longer birth story etc when we are finally home for good. Hopefully in the next 1-2 days.

Nicole - if any of us PDX mama's can help you please let us know! (i.e. running food for you up to OHSU, babysitting other children for you, locating some bf assistance, if you are open to donar milk (if it is needed)).

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter

and good for you for stickin up for your little girl, I find you have to fight to exclusivly breastfeed when babies are in the hospital and that is so sad, because the breastmilk will make them better faster, keep up the good work I am sure your little one will be home soon.

Update: We're Home!

Yes finally! We brought Lily home this evening about 8pm pac time. She had elevated Billirubin levels over the last couple of days and the doc wanted to see them heading down before she released her. So she is fine now. I need to take her in for a check tomorrow just to be careful it is going down, but the neo-natologist at OHSU felt confident that she will be just fine.

I am going to go sleep for a few days now! (except when nursing of course!)

Glad to hear you are all home together! And good for you for sticking up for your Lily's right to nurse and only get breast milk. It's a battle many cannot win (grrr).

Thanks everyone! As of Thursday 6/2, she has gained 15.5 oz and is an even 8lbs! The docs are happy with her weight gain, but still concerned about her jaundice since her levels are still 16.9, we will recheck again on Sat. morning. Today is nice and sunny here so we will be going outside and taking big brother's to the park.
