BTDT Homebirthers--where did you end up birthing?

Just curious. I've been pondering this for a while but especially while I was picking up my plastic drop cloths from Sears today
Wondering where they'd actually end up!
I have "throwaway" sheets for each of my beds that I got from the thrift store yesterday since I don't know which one I'll end up on. Then I'm realizing that I may not even birth on the bed. I kind of would like to but geez, they come when they come, right?
And if it's anything like last time, for the last 45 minutes of labor I was in one position and did not want to move from the spot I was in. I can't imagine getting my hiney up the stairs to the bed in that state of mind. Stranger things have happened though!
I'm looking forward to birthing on my funky, older, yellow, big flowered sheet that I got yesterday though.
I'm also looking forward to receiving my birth kit that should get mailed tomorrow. As soon as it's here I'll feel ready! I also bought the wrong batteries for our flashlight today, but that's probably one of the more minor things on the to do list the midwife gave to us.
Anyhoo I'd love to hear where everyone ended up having their babies. I'm imagining many were born on the toilet
Take care!

I knew I wanted to at least labor in the water but wasn't sure about birthing. So we prepared the bed just in case. I had clean sheets on the bottom, shower curtain, cheap fitted sheet on the top.

However the water felt SO good and I was SO much more comfortable there than "on land", I ended up birthing in the water.

I birthed in the water, but I had prepared the bed and the living room floor just incase.

bs"d

I gave birth and labored on my bed. I didn't have a pool, however, and have no plans to have one this time. I felt pretty good without it, and it seems like so much work to get it set up and I doubt I'd want dh rushing around filling it when I'm in labor.

Much of labor was in our bath tub. When the midwife got there she checked me on the bed. I then went in near the toilet, my water broke, and I ended up having DS on a birthing stool about 15 minutes later near the toilet. DD is sure to mention that *LOUDLY* often in public, lol.

I think about this too, where am I gonna birth?

I was thinking water or bed, but then I thought, bed is probably out because it is freaking hard enough to get in and out of that as it is...so being in hard labor, I dunno...and water might be cool but then I hear a lot of women want the stability of *dry land*...

In my mind I know she will come when and where she wants to, no matter where I am... just wherever I feel most comfortable or at ease or whatever in the moment...

but I like to have a *loose* plan of a few different places ...

at this rate, I will be happy if she just GETS HERE... I am only 3 days late but it feels like 3 weeks she is so big and so low...

i had always pictured the living room (i live in a small 1 bed apt and the bedroom is FULL of junk)
but while i was pushing the mw got me to sit on the toilet to change positions. i ended up birthing on the bathroom rug kneeling over the tub.
this time, i'm going to try and stay in the living room - all those people squeezed into my tiny bathroom - not a pretty sight

I prepared our bed, an air mattress (as a possible place to kneel, firmly inflated), and the pool.

I gave birth standing over the pool. :LOL Not a waterbirth, but close enough, I guess.

With my first, I planned this perfect (haha!) water birth. But, her hand was wedged under her chin, and it took longer to get her out. Plus, I couldn't relax in the water
Long story short, she was born in our bed.
With ds, we didn't bother with the possibility of water...he was also born in our bed!

Congrats! And, I hope you have a wonderful birth

i gave birth to my dd in the bed her grandma (my MIL) was born in 63 yrs before. i walked around a lot both inside and outside during the last few hours of labor and moved to the bed when i was ready to push. the headboard was a great board to labor against. i sat knealing, facing the headboard/wall as i pushed until she crowned. i had a set of sheets on the bed, a plastic curtain, and another set of sheets on top. they were so easy for the midwives to remove while i was in bed enjoying my new baby. the bedroom suite was my MIL's as a girl, then my dh's as a boy, and will be my dd and she can take it with her when she has a place of her own. She was also concieved in that bed

i gave birth on the rug in the middle of the room. in the weeks after her birth i noticed that the low window sill area would have been a great place to give birth- as it was karl was sitting in a chair and i leaned into his lap on my knees. during transition i almost broke the chair he was sitting in a few times.

i needed something solid to lean and push into. i think the window open, leaning over the low sill would have been perfect. oh well, next time!

I gave birth in our bath tub .. hadn't planned to actually give birth there (had planned to use it during labour though) but that's where she wanted to be born .

My Lilah was born in the fishy pool on our family room floor. I was really open to her being born anywhere that felt right at the time, though I did think that would be the pool.

Our first daughter was born as planned in the living room of our apartment ~ it was a bright & airy room, and my favorite room in our apartment. I felt a strong sense of peace there.

For the birth of our second daughter, we'd planned a water birth but it didn't happen. The labor progressed very quickly and there wasn't time to fill the pool before the pushing stage. No way did I want DH running about filling the pool at that time :LOL She was born in the living room of our house (also my favorite room this time around... I must have a thing for living rooms!), on a lounge mat.

For both births we moved to the bedroom soon after delivery. I think for our first daughter we had a proper mattress cover, but for our second we didn't bother and just put chux pads under the sheets. Both worked fine

My own perspective with both births is in the "crunch time", I couldn't have cared less where I gave birth! I didn't want to move too much, and was really just focused inwardly.

I ended up spending the majority of labor in our birthing pool ( a huge cheap one that we found at toysrus - which my mom kept filled up with hot water- goddess bless her soul!) and for the pushes at the end I was standing and squatting in the pool, where the midwives caught the baby, so most of the blood and fluids went in the pool, but then we transferred into the bedroom on the bed, with the midwives carrying a huge pad under me as we walked in there, so then i was on my bed, where we thankfully had put a plastic dropclotht under the sheets.
it will go fine! you'll have enough time to get whatever covered that isnt!
best wishes!

bathtub. clean up was much easier. But, I didn't have a good experience Don't think I could HB again. Better luck to all of you!!

Both boys were born in their own bedrooms. Both planned, I labored 90% of the time in the pool and also birthed there.

We did not prepair our bed for a land birth, I had a plan and stuck to it...lol

you could give birth anywhere and I have caught babies just about everywhere in the house-- places that are planned like a tub- but also places like the toilet, bathroom floor, on a birth ball, bedroom floor, kitchen , hallway, mom getting out of bed and standing near corner of bed and the floor, outside on a porch, on a bunch of pillows on the living room floor..... I encourage you to move around and have the baby where you start pushing - or if you feel you need to move even then do so-- one fairly recent births was in the kitchen-- mom was really swaying and moving her hips around this way and that and moaning and she said oops my water broke-- but I saw nothing- she carefully walked into the kitchen off the white carpet of the living room and sure enough a little trickle of water and blood on the floor (she held it in luckily it was only about 3 steps and she didn't want the carpet to get dirty) any how the birth before this one was like 4 hrs of pushing-- well she was pushing and I said go for it-- could not even think about having her move back over that carpet to get into the bed and 1-2 pushes and the baby was crowning yelled for dad to come in here now and he came around the corner very surprised to see his baby being born over the tiled kitchen floor.

Both times I spent my whole labor in the bathtub then got out to squat next to the bed on the floor.
