BTDT Homebirthers--where did you end up birthing? - Page 4

I labored all over the house and then gave birth in a blow-up kiddie pool in some guy's dining room.

okay, okay...so we were living there, housesitting for a family friend...but only for a few months....it didn't really seem like home.

I have pics of me laboring on the stairs, in the bathroom, on the kitchen floor, leaning on the dog in three different rooms, on the landing, on the couch, on the birthing ball, on the birthing stool, on the couch, on the parlor floor, in the pool, on the edge of the pool, next to the pool......

I would have LOVED to be outside, but it was December and COLD!!!!

Cassidy was born on the toilet in our tiny bathroom. We couldn't have fit one more person in there.:LOL My DH, 2 DDs, MW, Mom, and MIL somehow all fit in the room for the birth part.

I pushed in many places for over an hour before the toilet won.

During my PG, I envisioned pushing her out either in the inflatable pool for a waterbirth or into my hands while kneeling on the floor.

#1: Got out of my bed and squatted

#2: Toilet

#3: In front of kitchen sick (thankfully clean and blessedly solid to grab!)

I labored mainly in the upstairs living room, in the downstairs living room, and every time i went to the bathroom. I ended up birthing in the fishy pool exactly as I had hoped.

First birth: labored in the water, pushed on the toilet and bed (back and forth), ended up giving birth on my bed (flat on my back - it's what worked and felt the best at the time)

Second birth: precipitous labor, almost immediately got in the tub and gave birth there a few minutes later.

the arm of Deek's Chair.

to elaborate: long first stage of labor... home, park, home, kitchen counter (favorite spot), shower, then delightfully, birth tub (aquadoula). i had a very stubborn cervical lip which had me stalled at 7 or 8 cm. for hours, mostly in the tub. finally, my body started pushing in the tub (2 or 3 incredible contractions, so powerful) and there was a plume of blood which concerned the midwife since she last time i was checked i still wasn't fully dilated, so she (and my dh and my doula and my friend) helped me get out of the tub onto "Deek's Chair" to make sure i had not torn my cervix or anything. i only made it onto the arm, on my side, with my doula holding me up so i wouldn't fall off. turns out i had a precipitous second stage and the baby was pretty much crowning and the blood was normal, from a periurethral tear. i asked to get back into the tub but they said if i tried the baby would probably be born on the 3 feet of floor between the chair and the tub. so, a few seconds pass, next contraction, despite my efforts not to push to slow things down, out came a head, then the rest. then a big "WAAAAAH" then time stopped and my heart grew a million times. just amazing. thinking about it made me have a let-down of milk.

oh, but to answer your question properly: "Deek's Chair." Deek is one of my dogs. His chair is a beat up old lazyboy recliner that we were going to get rid of before the birth but our midwife said it might make a good "landing pad" if i want to get out of the tub since it would be so close. that is where our spare tarp and blankets ended up.

I've had four children, three of them homebirths. My second child (first homebirth) was born with me sitting on the sofa in the living-room. My third child was born with me leaning over the front of an armchair in the living-room (facing the chair, with my back to the midwife). My fourth was born in a similar position but leaning over my bed instead of an armchair.

My fifth child is due in a few weeks; I will have a birthing pool for the first time (yay!) but I don't know whether I'll actually birth in it or get out to give birth - I'll do whatever feels right at the time :~)
