Poor Karen. Those fuzzibunz really aren't working too well for you And yeah I think the panty eating ants are a HI thing
DH says he wants to move to HI and join your commune. I was telling him about your dh's injury
post #162 of 490
Oh and you're about alot of those diaper sites, but I imagine that there isn't much room for creativity with diapers, just differnt fabrics
post #163 of 490
Luka and Violet must be on the same poop wavelength :LOL She just took a load off right on my skirt. Oh, lovely, now she's spitting up. She's just the picture of young ladyhood! NOT!

Not to beat a dead horse or anything because I'm sure nobody else cares about the annusl rainfall of the hawaiian islands - but I was looking at a topographical map with the average rainfall from 1960-1991 and it looked like Hilo was averaging around 200 inches or so. I bet those other ave. are from the recent drought years, Karen. Lol, 130 inches is a drought!?

It is so humid today! Ugh, its unbearable.
yeah, I think 130's is low for us! the first year we lived here was one of the top 10 wettest years on record- we came in jan, which was gorgeous, and then it rained every single day in feb :LOL 2-3 years or so ago in nov, we had 30-ish inches fall in 24 hours! ack!

I was just on the phone with my neighbor, relaying Luka's poop adventures and she remembers the grosses poopy diaper she ever changed- and of course it was Ra'am's- down the leg and chunky. funny she remembers:LOL (she was a sposie user, so maybe it sttod out because of the cloth, cuz she mentioned it).

Hey, Luka is doing an EXCELLENT job of sitting. He's well on his way! woo hoo!

So if it rains so much, what is this talk about water trucks? Interesting place you two live in.

So, the washer was a dud, after all. Every time it had to change to a new phase, we had to manually turn the knob to make it go. Otherwise it would just keep doing whatever it was doing, like spinning, or wasting tons of water because it was rinsing the load of diapes over and over and over . . . :LOL (Those are some CLEAN diapes!) Poor DH was all upset, because we've had a rough week, and he picked the thing out, and it wasn't working, and the babies were in sposies which were ick on Carmen's turkey legs. So I call the Sears outlet place, and I ask, "um, my husband bought a washing machine, and isn't it supposed to work?" :LOL The lady said yes, just bring the broken one back. I told her we're prolly the only family in Houston that doesn't own a truck, and I mentioned the twins (gotta play that card while I can!). So she let me come and pick out a new one, and she's going to have it delivered (free!) tomorrow. They'll take the dud away, too. Wow! How nice. I hope this machine lasts. Our old one was fine until we started washing diapes.

Carmen's poo is still yuck. She doesn't poo often, though, so it might take us a while for everything to work out of her system. It's only been a week. Her eyebrows were looking okay, and then bad again, so I wonder if chocolate is an allergen for her on top of whatever else is going on for her (I'm actually allergic, but I eat it anyway : ).

After all that pet commentary, I'm really grateful for my cat.

Yea Luka! That's awesome! He really has great control, that boy! Beca was like that... Ori is SO much floppier. Kinda nice, in a way, 'cause he'll be my 'baby' longer, but I do wish for him that he'd do a bit more with his body. I think he'll be happier once he's moving around a bit.
You girls are so funny about these pooping peeing babies! I guess we're pretty squeemish ... unless he's outside or on the changing table, he's got a diaper on. Once in a while, if I've got a couple of cpf's on my lap, I'll let him hang out w/me w/out a diape., but mostly, well almost always, he's got one on.

Funny about the rainfall. Vancouver gets a ton, too. Jerry made me write to the weather canada boys and find out how many times it rained on his birthday when he was a kid. Weird how people remember rain...I guess we remember snow that way, here. Annie - what made you look in the first place? Heading to dry weather country??? Oh yeah, I wanted to say that if your grandma doesn't have a vaporizer/humidifier, that you should get one when you get there. the seriously dry air will be hard on poor Kobe. How's he feeling today?

About these diaper sites. Well, to be honest, I am not a diaper hound, the way some of you gals are. I just don't get it. The diaper goes INSIDE a cover, which goes INSIDE the clothes. So who is actually seeing them? I love my pretty wool covers, esp. the shorties and longies because people really get to see them and I get to yaddah yaddah yaddah about how great wool is etc. So I gotta say that I'm just not impressed with the whole diaper revolution. The aio's have come a long way, but too, I am against the grain on this and do not love the pocket diapes at all. I think it's just a silly waste to do the whole pocket thing when you can lay a thin liner in there and it's just the same, cleans better and dries faster. Can you see in that little pocket? How do you KNOW it's clean? I'm weird about that kind of stuff. I know, I'm shutting up.

So I got a phone call today from a 3rd grade boy in beca's class who asked me to 'speak with her' because she's been SO annoying in class and on the bus that the boys are just FED UP with her. They are paying her to keep quiet (and she's still not!). It's so sad. my poor sweet girl. she just doesn't get it. she really is exhuberant, but she needs social filter lessons. I've really tried. So, for now, the tv is totally cut off (let's live in reality for a while and see how we do), and she's on probation w/the computer. None today, tomorrow is earned today etc. What a drag. So while I'm working this out w/her, I'm slicing onions and WHACK took off a chunk of finger. that' was pleasant. So I took her and Ori over to the park for a while, came back and dh got home, so he did dinner. I've STILL got a pressure bandage on the cut. It's uuuuugly.

Hope you're all having a good night mamas! xxx andy

ps - no panty eating ants in NY

Hi Joyce - X-Post!

It does take a while to get it out of their systems... you're right there. Also, chocolate is a MAJOR allergin...bummer, huh?! You're such a good mama for being there for her. Bummer about the sposies, but what's a mama to do w/out a washer! I'mglad they're being good to you and doing the delivery/removal. Only fair, imo, since it's theirs in the first place and it's broken! Somehow I read 'after all that pet cemetary I'm grateful for my cat' and I'm like ... !? I think it's time for me to go to bed. Night night mamas!
Well, we had a nice day with Nana. She stayed on Nana for almost all the time she was awake and not nursing. She was such a happy girl today. Plus Nana got all the usual housework done. And I got to bake my punkin muffins... I just used the plain ol Betty Crocker recipe. Looks like the walk tomorrow is going to be rained out. It's rained all afternoon and is supposed to keep up until noon.

Funny, I don't look at the diaper sites too much. I'm afraid it would plant ideas in my head about more things to sew that I don't have the time or energy for. :LOL I've got such terrible do-it-yourself'er syndrome about anything sewn or cooked. I should go look at soakers 'cause I can't knit, so I'd actually buy them.

Michelle: hope your aunt's feeling better.

Well, I'm ready to keel over. Have a good night.

Hey Mamas

Andy, Ooooch! I hope your finger heals up quickly! Those kind of everyday kitchen accidents can be the worst. DH is always on me about my "knife safety" (or lack therof... )

Wow for Luka, almost sitting already! I realize now that Tess was sitting at 5 months exactly, which isn't far off now at all. I just don't see that Brynn's anywhere near there yet. She's just a laid back chika, I guess.... literally!

HOLY TEETHING BATMAN!!! Wowzers.. Seriously, it's hard to describe but Brynn can go entire days on end without crying once ~ she's just such a jolly one. Well, today was so tough for her, and I just know it's her teeth. Poor baby, she had several hard cries today, and just wanted to sleep, sleep, sleep. My poor girl. The hylands help quite a lot, and I just realized that I only gave them to her once today (duh!!!! silly mama.) She's sleeping now, and hopefully she can get some much needed rest.

My DH is on his way home!!! Woo hoo!! He was in Colorado the last 4 days at a conference, and oh how we miss him when he's away. He called me late this afternoon from the airport and we talked for over an hour ~it was really nice He said how much he missed me and how lucky he feels that we have such an amazing friendship after talking to some of his colleagues and hearing how they described marrying their wives as "well, sooner or later you realize you're not going to find anything better...." Gack! That is so sad. We've known each other since we were teens, and are each other's best friend.

Ok, sappy moment finito! Can't wait till he's home.

Andy & Laura, I saw you over at the 1000 Challenge! Woo hoo, January Mamas taking it by storm! hee hee.. What I really like about it is that you aren't competing against anyone else, just yourself. It doesn't matter if you make it to 300 minutes for the month or to 2000 ~ it's all a matter of personal goals. Still, it's so motivating to be part of the larger group and keeps me feeling accountable.

Michelle, I'm sorry about your aunt and hope for a speedy and full recovery! It sounds like it'll be a tough wait, the next couple of weeks.

Diapering - honestly, I'm not gung ho either. I *love* CD'ing, but have to admit that I'm perfectly happy with our chinese prefolds and our bummis sww! (froggy print, of course!) I've tried hemp fitted's, AIO and motherease one-size and still I keep coming back to the simple stuff. I do have to admit that they're pretty though! I think the one time I started to consider buying AIO was when Tess was in a "I HATE DIAPER CHANGES" stage at about a year old. Ugh... that was tough - - squirmy and crying and trying to get a prefold on just do not mix! Let's hope that Brynn continues to smile and coo through her diaper changes (a girl can dream...)

Rain - Annie, you're cracking me up with your stats! :LOL It's an apt topic for me too actually, as it rained ALL week here up until today. When it rain in AL, it REALLY rains too! It's all about the extreme weather down here. At least no tornado warnings, and not hurricane season yet.

We are having a horrible night here. Will went down about 8:30 or so, and has been up since 9:30 crying. We can't get him to stop. I am so frustrated with him. And then I get more frustrated with myself because I am frustrated with him. It is a never ending cycle. We have been doing this crap for the past couple of days. Ugh.

We spoke with the school and they are following up on the whole thing. I am just glad that the school year is done with and we are moving over to another teacher.

Andy - you use chamomillia, right?? What is it supposed to do?

Dipes - I agree with most others. I have cute ones, but they go under clothes here, so I try not to get too caught up in things.

Well, better try and get some sleep. Gotta try and get Will down first. Gonna hit the HFS tomorrow and try and get some chamomillia.

Heres to hoping that we get some sleep.
oh Nicole- is it teeth? poor baby (and mama too!)

Kathy- poor your baby too! teeth are no fun coming in! And what you wrote about dh? SWEET . My dh and I are excellent friends too- sometimes we lack in other depts (like when breastfeeding), but we get along really well and love to talk to each other.

Andy- ouch! I have a huge scar on my pinkie from when I sliced it doing onions too. I was home alone with Noam, an older nursling than Luka is, but still a little one. was horrible. It gushed blood.

Jeni0 glad you had such a nice day and got some baking in- yummm.

Joyce- the water trucks are for all the people who don't have county water. there are many of them here. whole huge areas of the island are not plumbed, so they catch water off their roofs. that's usually all fine, until it doesn't rain very much (or they have a small catchment tank). then they gotta get water hauled. it's $$, but necessary. supposedly the wait is like 2 weeks right now. We have countyr water, so no issue here
good or you for getting the freebies- always good to give a sob story!

andy- we go diaper free a lot here because I hate the thought of him having wetish fabric up all over his bottom all day long.

baby needs me- gotta run!
Geneva's right up there with Luka and working on sitting up. She's also very frsutrated with the fact that when she tries to crawl, she ends up rolling onto her back! We cleaned up Abby's old high chair yesterday to get it ready for her, though we're trying to wait at least 6 mos for solids.

Nicole, sorry you had such a rough night!

With diapers, I tend to go for practicality. I really like my sandy's - they're relatively cheap, don't take too long to dry, and fit nicely.
I also use cuddlers with G, believe it or not. I got them froma relative, used, for Abby, but didn't use them. However, they're great for EC, and they're the only cute prints I've got!

Tomorrow is my pampered chef party! I'm so excited!
Andy, Jessi, when you get yours and try them out, you can promote the mama who makes them - I started a thread in babywearing about it, might as well let someone become rich!

Lauren's thighs are NOT that big I can wrap my thumb, index finger around and it's maybe another inch or so at the big part.

Karen, at least he left you all the laundry at once!

Annie, yah Lauren almost ALWAYS spits up trying to poo too. Such fun!

Joyce, use that twins card! I would! And good luck on the new washer. Ours came with the house, and so far, it's holding up. That's one thing not in our new budget, paying for the stuff that breaks!

Andy, I 2nd your thoughts on dipes. I'd much rather have beautiful covers (why can't I get into wool?) and use my prefolds. Someone needs to come out with some fun new covers! Karen? You sew!

Hey Annie, can I buy a soaker from you? Or trade something for it?

Ouch Andy on the finger! And maybe you can find a way to capitalize on Beca and those boys? She could be your second income :LOL

Oh hugs Nicole!

I just realized that I have a small stash of small fitteds just sitting around, and I really should pass them to another mama to use and then get them back when her babe outgrows them. Must put them in my big diaper bag for my bf group. I swear I always take the "big" bag there because I'm taking stuff for the new moms to read, and we always end up going out so I need extra dipes, blah blah ...

Pam, yep, us too. But we let Lauren sit in the high chair and play with a toy on the tray when we eat or I need 5 min to cook or something. She really likes sitting up in there, it offers a lot of support. I suppose the manufacturer made it that way for all those 3 mo olds who are having cereal already!

Lauren loves to sit, and she balances fairly well on her little potty, and last night she pulled herself from reclined on dh to upright using her abs. Amazing stuff! She's not so good at balancing on the floor yet but we let her practice and fall over.

Yikes, we're at 10 pages and it's not been a week. Maybe we DO need a weekly thread?

Time for breakfast, and then a shower. I'm hoping to get to Kohl's or Target (I'd really love both, but I doubt that'll happen) today.

Lisa

Pam - Have fun with pampered chef. I have several things I just love. I am supposed to be going to a Southern Living Show today. Fortunately, we live just down the street, so if I need to bring a fussy baby home, I can.

Rain - We are totally under what we are supposed to be getting this year. And it doesn't look good for monsoon season. We are likely to have a fairly dry year again.

We did have a better night. He finally fell asleep around 11, but Em woke up wet. It figures that she would start wetting the bed now. We took the plastic cover off 2 weeks ago, figuring that we were safe to do that. she had only had 2 accidents in 8 weeks, so we figured we were past that stage. Now, we have to go and find a waterproof pad to put under her butt. Better that than ruin the mattress.

Will did sleep last night.l He woke up around 2 or so and just needed to be patted a little to go back to sleep. We keep forgetting that he could be teething.

DH Rant - Normally we get along so well and understand eachother so well. But he could really use the training camp. He is just so irritating right now, and he keeps telling me that it is me who is causing all of the arguments. Now, I agree that I am at fault for some, but come on, he is not perfect. When I talk to a couple of my girlfriends here, their response has been that we need to GIO. Like that's going to happen. I can't do that when I am just irritated at him so much. He slams things around all the time and when I look at him for that, he gets frustrated at me for looking at him. Ugh. Hopefully this is all just part of sleep deprivation, because I hate not liking him very much.
Rant Over

Lisa - We are headed to Target today too, but I love love love Kohls. Also, for cute cute clothes, we have found that Burlington Coat Factory has really cute stuff! I even found a swim suit set for both kids for under 12 bucks. Wills has the trunks, shirt and a visor and Ems is a bikini (she hates one pieces, they are too tight, but it is not a revealling or sexy bikini) and has a hat thing and a cover-up. Will be good for swimming lessons.

Andy - Is the chamomillia safe to take when nursing? Maybe it would help me with my frustration. Guess I'll hop over to Kellymom and see.

More later.
All you crafty mamas have got me going now. I went to the fabric store yesterday and bought a whole bunch of fabric that I'm probably not going to mae anything out of :LOL I bought a cute strawberry fabric that I want to make a big dress out of. Miss E has more than enough dress in all the smalelr sizes. So I'm thinking about 18mths size. I just have to find a pattern that I like fist. I also got some pink embroidered with strawberries that I'm going to maKE a mei tai with, cause you know I need another carrier One guess who I took shopping with me..

All these babies are getting so big, eating solids, sitting, rolling, getting teeth :

I took the dogs for a nice long walk this morning we went down to the beach and Emma wanted to run down to the water and poor louie was terrified ofthe sand and wanted nothing to do wih the water. So we walked on the sidewalk. But it was so funny because they're on one ofthose tandem leaches.
I'm going to pop over and join the 1000 minute challenge too. I was talking to dh about it and he says he'll help me

Joyce good for you for playing the twins card, you work hard enough you desever a little help. Haven't no washer has got to be hard. You must have so much laundry

Well we just had a giant poo over here. I love to go on and on how we've never had a blow out poo, which we haven't but I'm always getting her clothes in the poo so she ends up being changed anyways I don't know she did it but te poo was all ing the middle to front of the diaper, none in the back

Andy we;re kind blobby over here too. She'll stand if you hold her hand and she'll sit leaning against you but she puts 9 effort into doing anything on her own. She does roll pretty good from belly to back now. I had her belly down on the bed this morning and she rolled right over. It goes to show that babies do not need "tummy time" in order to do these things. Miss E is almost never laying down and has been put tummy down a handful of ytimes
Sorry to hear miss Beca is having social issues. We had to take away the tv quite awhile ago here. He's allowed to watch it once in awhile (usually when we need hom occupied for some "adult time") Christopher was really bad though, to the point where the school has an aide for him just to help with his social issues. He was never really around kids until he want to kindergarten for the 1st time last year, so I think that was alot of his problem. He was just used to being alone, plus he has a socially retarded mother. He's so much better now though
It is kinda funny about the bus though. I can be a talker and was forver getting paid to keep quiet by my mother

Hi - no time here - and typing w/ 9 fingers sucks... thanks for the nice thoughts. I forgot about chamomilla last night too...:eyeroll. He was up every 1.5 - 2 hrs and at 3:45 he was UP for the day (until like 7am I might add). Finally got him back to sleep and beca woke up. she'd peed the bed (us too?!). So changing sheets etc. Then it was time to get everybody fed and off to softball...it's been a long day and it's technically JUST afternoon! Ugh. Tonight we are having our babywearing friend to be over. Exciting! I hope you have a good papmered birthday party Pam! And hug to all the mamas who need hugs, 'cause that means I get hugs back too. And I'm needing them!

Nicole - Chamomilla is totally safe while breastfeeding. Such a tiny bit of actual plant is in it to start, and then it goes through you before getting to the baby... and it does help. but Kava helps more!

xoxoxo andy

Ps - Lisa - we like this carrier the UNIVERSE will hear about it!
LOL Andy, you made me remember.. when I was in grad school and frantically typing up the last draft of my thesis, I used an exacto knife to remove the binding from a book that I needed to copy pages.. anyhow, knife slips, meets left index finger, then bone. Not fun. I think I ended up with a lot of stitches and some SERIOUS pain for several days. And I had something like 37 pages left to type. I was trying to type with my toes, my nose, my finger was buddy taped so I actually couldn't use 2 fingers.. not pretty!

Hey, join my thread and yap about the carrier. I seriously can't pry it off of dh. http://mothering.com/discussions/sho...d.php?t=295649

And I SO BADLY want to get to the fabric store today, I have THE BEST idea for a blanket, and I want to make 2, one to mail to Lissi and one for me. Of course it's a WINTER blanket, but gotta start somewhere, right?
sounds like a lot of peeing and not great nights last night! we had one too! a wake up in the middle of the night- enough to pee and leak all over the bed! I am DONE with pocket diapers. DONE DONE DONE! Before I stick them up on the TP, anyone interested in 4 wonderoos? 3reds, 1 aqua? Cheap. get them out of my house! Mary, I know you pm'd me a long time ago about inserts- I do have some- maybe I'll pm you- I think you're working this weekend.
Luka woke up at 6 and I was so NOT ready to be awake. Dh has been sleeping downstairs since the broken rib because sleep has been painful. It's been great- we get a huge bed and he can gingerly turn himself over. But last night I was seriously cursing him for not being there. Luckily, Ra'am woke up early and i passed off the kid and went back to sleep.

Sheri- sounds like you've got some SEWING to do! little girl's dresses are easy. I've made tons- usually sleevless- you could do the same and if it's cold just put a t-shirt on underneath. I guess you'll have to start calling her strawberry girl.

Nicole- chamomilla is great- way ok for bf- and I agree with Andy that kava is even better. maybe some rescue remedy too. I kinda agree with your friends a little that you should GIO with dh. when you've got little kids, you tend to get all caught up in their little world and forget your partner. it's just a nice way to connect..... but not if you're extremely mad.

Lisa- no diaper sewing for me. would take all the fun out of it. and I need diapers and covers with high functionality- i.e. good fit and good waterproofness. If I had a plastic snap machine, I might consider it, but I hate velcro. Truly, I think I'm over the diaper stuff. I'm happy with what I have (mostly motherease one sizes) and a few others. I wish the covers were a little cuter (also me), but they function so well. I never have leaks or problems with them.

my kids are so funny. they wanted to have a sleepover with the kids next door, but those kids parents wanted them to sleep at home. so the kids stayed late last night adn then apparently one is here and taking his morning bathroom in ours. their house is literally 30 yds or so from mine. and they have 2 bathrooms.... why here???
Geesh Lisa- you are really raving about that carrier..... maybe I need one.... after my walk yesterday with Luka in sling (and nursing and asleep), my back is killing me and I'm dreaming of a stroller (which I'm geting on the mainland), my luck he'll hate a stroller..... maybe I need one?
Karen, yah I really do love it. Lauren does too.

Does anyone know anything about chiggers? I have these 2 bumps on my ankle that fit the text of what a chigger bite is, but when I look online at pics, no match. They itch like mad too.
