Turning TV on & off

My DD is 15 months, she loves to turn the TV on & off. We only watch at night & she is usually playing in the living room floor. She has started turning the TV on & off. The other night she just turned it off, so we left it off. Last night however I was really wanting to watch something, so I went over and picked her up & sat her in my lap & told her that turning the TV on & off would break the TV. She was crying the whole time. I let her down & she went right back. Before I let her how I told her it was okay please don't cry etc. So I go get her again & let her the same sort of thing, put her in my lap & she cries. I let her down again & back she goes. Let her the same thing get her again & she still cries. The last time I let her down she laid down in the floor & cried then got up & went to her daddy for hugs. I hate that she cried so much but what else could I do. I tried to re-direct by doing other things after she was in my lap, but it did not work. My dh says that if she keeps doing this it will mess up the TV. Help. I can't find anything that will work on covering the button & she loves buttons.

HopefulMom,

What we did is get a playyard and put it all the way around the TV. I've also seen plastic covers some people have that go over the buttons, not sure where you buy them. Or you could just tape cardboard over them - I did that with our stove for a while! HTH!

We have a plastic guard over the tv buttons. We got it at Toys R Us for about $10.

I will have to look for the guard. I just can't image how this would mount to my TV.

Actually, our DS did eventually break the button and then we just used the remote. So for the 2nd baby there was no working button there! LOL. I covered the remaining buttons with electrical tape.

We've been fairly careful though about not watching grown-tv with the kids around. (I'm more careful about it than Daddy is.) I don't think its fair to sit and watch television that the kids won't be interested in. They need more attention than that. If its something really important, can you tape it and watch it in peace while she is sleeping?
