Hi mamas and papas.
I have been struggling as of late...and so has dh. Our son is only 15 months old.
How do you gently correct yourself and get back on track after a mistake like snapping at your sweet one?
Also, previously when I would see dh making a parenting mistake, or doing something to my child that I felt I needed to protect him from I was very direct about it. like reminding dh he is only 1 year old...he does not respond to that, or "please do not yell at him...remember to treat him like you want to be treated" "how about redirecting?" Sometimes I let it go while waiting for dh to correct himself and apologize to ds. (when this doesnt happen I flip out and get upset)
The reason I stopped these tactics is that I realized dh was really defensive...obviously I was going about it wrong. Also he said he cant stand it when I do that b/c it seems hypocritical to him as I make mistakes too. (true)
Any advice? We both know how we *want* to treat our son, and why...but when we mess up how can we handle it without wallowing in guilt (me) or getting angry and defensive (dh)??
thanks
