Here is the article, I'm still reading it so I'm not sure if it's thumbs up or thumbs down. Did you know there are 9 whole midwives in NYC?

I haven't read the article. (Not a registered NYtimes reader. lol.) But wanted to say that 9 midwives for NYC seems really meager! Yikes. Guess they stay busy?

I thought it was really good. There was a quote from some OB that said something like birth was 98% boredom and 2% sheer terror - whatever.

Besides that it was very positive!

I guess that describes what it's like to sit there and twiddle your thumbs in a hospital bed with an epidural. And then it wears off you have to push and it's sheer terror that you have to feel something and do something.

I was thinking, since it came from an OB, that it was from his pov. That most times he proably just walks in catches the baby, signs the chart and that's that. 2% are those emergenies that develop.
