Help a Mama learn to GD! - Page 2

I used to just keep picking my daughter up and moving her to the area I wanted her in and playing with her there and when she went for something I didn't want her to play on I would tell her that I didn't want her to play on it but that she could play with _____ and then I would move her again. It took a lot of patience but it helped her to learn that I meant what I said and I never had to resort to yelling or worse.

Maya and Piglet's discussion on childproofing is interesting, IMO the amount of childproofing you have to do depends on how lazy/busy you are. For example, I work from home, so when my dd was 14 mos old I had my office totally and completely childproofed so that I never even had to turn around from my computer and look at her. My living room, however, was not really childproofed, but we didn't spend that much time in there, only when I had the time and energy to be ready to get up and intervene, or if we were intently playing together. I would assume that someone who invested in toilet locks and those little plastic dealies you put on your door knobs is someone who wants to let their child have free range of the entire house without monitoring them very closely. Right?
