natural remedy for ear pain?

Hi mamas. Anyone know of any natural remedies for ear pain? I remember once reading about olive oil & garlic dropped into the ear, but I don't remember the specifics. My 3 year old dd has been complaining of ear pain off and on for about a week. She will say her ear hurts, I give her Tylenol, then it seems fine. A couple days later she will complain again. We've never had ear infections or earaches in our family before, so I am new to all this. I want to avoid the Tylenol of course, but I don't want her to suffer. I'm reluctant to go to the pediatrician, bc I think they will prescribe antibiotics regardless. DD is also recovering from recurrent yeast, so we definately don't want antibiotics unless truly necessary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

I've used this myself in the past

I think there is a kid's version.

Also, for systemic yeast, are you using probiotics? I had that years ago after getting completely mistreated by allergist who were very pro antibiotics. I had to get some special acidophilus, not just the regular kind. I got it at a health food store. I think it was refridgerated and a complete formula. A good health food store would know what I mean. I know only take antibioitics rarely but when I do, I take acidophilus and never get yeast infections again.

Thank you Boongirl. That is the type of thing I was thinking of. Yes, dd is taking probiotics. I appreciate that suggestion as well. I went to our HFS today, all they had for earache was a homeopathic ear drop. I will give that a try. I'd like to make my own olive oil/garlic drops too, if anyone has a recipe?

i cannot say enough about how great similisan is for my kids. it knocks them out cold, and when they wake up a few hours later, the pain is gone.

for the oil, i mince up garlic and drop it in a bottle of olive oil. shake every day or so for a few weeks, then strain into a dropper bottle. wont help you now, but it is good to have on hand in general. b4 administering, put the bottle in some almost hot water to warm it up for the ear. hth

Chiropractic works GREAT. There is a link off of Mothering to a site with Chiro's that specialize in children.

Along the same line as a garlic and olive oil mixture for the ears...if your dd can eat it, I would add garlic to her meals. It will work like an antibiotic that way too.

ds gets earaches when he eats/drinks cow dairy, so now he's on goat dairy or mama milk only. it's something to consider anyways.

mothering had an article a while ago about natural ways of dealing with earaches... found it! http://www.mothering.com/articles/gr...-remedies.html

here's another good looking link: http://www.mothering.com/sections/ex...s-archive.html
