so let's talk about sciatic pain...

since no one else wants to hear about it!

i am in the process of studying to become a Bradley instructor (sooo excited btw!!) and i was reading in one of my books yesterday that the uterus is only connected to the body by some tendons that are attached to the lower back. i guess i don't know what i thought the uterus was connected to, but i don't think i thought our back was the only thing holding it in place!!!! no wonder our stinking backs hurt!!

today my right leg got that tingle-down-the-leg-numb-painful-can't-put-any-weight-on-it-or-i-will-fall-down-thing that happened a lot early in my last pregnancy. i always felt so silly when that happened!! here i am, i am not obviously pg yet, and yet i am limping around like i can't walk!!! :LOL

I remember when I was pregnant with DS I had terrible sciatic pain. I couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes without my right leg going numb and tingling.

I had no idea the connection. I did see a chiropractor but never made a difference.

I never thought about where the uterus connected. Interesting! I also wondered if the growing uterus was pressing on some nerves or something. I should ask my chiropractor for more details when I go in one of these days.

I've been so exhausted, and sick last week, that it's been a week since I went to the gym, and I only went 2 days in the past 2 weeks (I'd been doing pretty well keeping on a schedule of 5 times a week). So I'm sure the lack of exercise isn't helping my situation any. I just have no energy.

My Dh was asking yesterday, "Why would you get sciatica when the baby is so tiny?" (I don't know honey, I guess I'm just making it all up...again!)

i wondered the same thing last time!! why would my back hurt if the baby is so tiny?? but now that we know how it is connected, it makes more sense! even if the uterus grows just a little bit, it is a lot of new strain on our back that we are not used to. tell your dh the new info - maybe then he'll understand a little more.

Will do!

Sciatica was one of the things that I REALLY hated about pregnancy last time. It was so bad postpartum that I could barely walk - I walked like a hunchback. The sciatica never fully went away, and now it seems to be back. Oh joy. :LOL

I have SI joint disfunction and have been going to PT for it for months. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about it other than try to strengthen the muscles in your back to support the weight of your front half. I have severe pain even now w/ the PT, but it has lessened since I began...it sucks SO bad huh!

You know, this may be something I pursue this pregnancy. PT might help what nothing else did. I wonder if keeping up yoga would do anything? I know that I walked quite a bit, and it did help a little bit.
