The Soprano's

I did a search but didn't find a thread about the Soprano's tv series. Does anyone else watch? We don't get HBO but the video store rents the first 3 seasons, and I have almost watched all of them. It is pretty violent but interesting, in a far fetched way.

We have been watching the DVD's as well. I actually had no interest in seeing it , but hubby rented it so of course if I want to see him I have to sit there with him. I'm still not "into" it like I have gotten into other shows, but I do want to see what happens. I watched the interview with the creater and that was really interesting.

I watch the Soprano's every Sunday. Did you have questions?

As far as I'm concerned it's one of the most brilliant shows on television. But also one I'd never in a zillion years let a child watch!!!

Hellp my name is Coco and I am a soprano-aholic!

We watch it every Sunday night and have the first 3 seasons on DVD that we got as gifts since every one knows that we are hooked. Yes some of it is pretty far fetched but I think it the most well written/directed show on TV. Granted since it is cable they can "get away" with more than prime time but still it is very powerful. The worst episodes are still better than any "must see" TV. DH and I hardly watch any TV on a regular basis except soccer/football/basketball (DH) and Law and Order (me).

Yes, I have questions! The video store said people keep stealing the Soprano's tapes, and some are missing. Plus, the had filed them wrong and I was mixing first and second season tapes and getting totally confused.

What I don't understand is why Tony is friendly again with his Uncle Junior. I thought he and Livia sort of arranged a hit on him? Tony cut his mother off but it seemed like he forgave Uncle Junior without any hoopla at all.

Also, did he or did he not sleep with Dr. Melfi?? I saw an episode where he see's her in a restaurant and she flirts with him (then regrets it) and he tells the guys at the table that she was good in bed when they press him to say it. But then when I watched some more tapes something was said about them not having slept together.

Also, well, don't tell me yet, but I am so upset over the Dr. Melfi rape. That episode was on the last tape I saw. I was so upset at how nothing was done about it. Of all the stuff on that show, the fact that nothing ever happened to the attacker seemed hard to believe. I don't understand the legal loophole, or why she hasn't prosecuted this guy since she KNOWS where works. I hoped she would tell Tony but I can see why she didn't. I am SO HOPING he finds out and "deals with the guy" mob style

Anyway, I have the last 3 tapes for season 3 to watch this weekend. I am hoping that poor Dr. Melfi gets some action against this attacker, and I am happy that Christopher is a made guy now. Initially I hated his character but it has grown on me.

Probably the worst thing so far was them taking out Uncle Pussy ( I cannot say that name without cracking up, and when Dr. Melfi referred to him as "Booty" I almost fell of the sofa laughing) . I loved his character. That was so awful.

Okay, no, the pregnant stripper who was killed, that was the worst. I was pretty stunned.

No he didn't actually sleep with Dr. Melfi, just in his dreams. He doesn't really forgive Junior, but he has to keep relations with him for business reasons. You know that he was keeping Junior as a figurehead, but after the attempted hit Tony let Junior know who was really in charge. He allows Junior to earn some income, due partly I think to his medical and legal difficulties.

Oh thank you Khrisday!

Yeah I knew he was just "humoring" Uncle Junior by letting him think he was boss. But I still do not really get why Tony would let something like an attempt on his life go without any retaliation. I think Junior was picked up and put in prison so maybe Tony couldn't get any revenge, and had time to cool down?

Thanks for clearing the Dr. Melfi thing up too. Tonight I watch the last set of season 3 tapes (dh is out of town). I am curious to see how things end with Jackie Jr. The very first episode I saw of the Soprano's was back when we had HBO years ago, and it was where Jackie Jr. gets killed. So I know it is coming....

And I agree, this is one of the top shows I do NOT let ds see at all. Renting them makes it easy to watch when I get a chance while ds is sleeping.

I really enjoy this show. I have gotten behind on the current season. I need to tape it and watch it when Bonnie is fast asleep and I kept forgetting to tape. You want to hear something crazy? Since we get our cable station directly from the West Coast the Sopranos is on at 8pm here. It was 7pm until you all went off daylight saving!

Junior is under house arrest for his medical problems, after the cancer he started having heart problems. The Feds let Tonay hear a tape of Junior and Livia (at the nursing home) deciding on Tony's demise, and he heard from her mother's own mouth that she didn't have a problem with him being offed. That really bothered him. He realized that Junior still had those that were loyal to him, so ordering a hit on Junior would again put his life at risk. Plus Junior was out of the way under house arrest, but Tony was able to take over his operations and increase his hold on the family business. Tony realized that Junior's attempt on his life was merely business, and I think he respected that. Livia, on the other hand, had nothing to gain by offing her son, and nothing to loose by letting him live. I think we're starting season three tonight.

Part of it is that Tony can't act against Uncle Junior without getting whacked himself from above or getting a green light from above which he ain't gonna get. After you are a made guy other guys know they can't just take you out. There are rules. And the big bosses particularly frown on someone wanting to whack a guy above him in the corporate structure. It sets a really bad president. Kind of like how in the middle ages would be userpers to thrones did their best to avoid regicide.

Thank you khrisday and kama 'aina mama.

I finished season 3 last night and I think I "get it" in terms of the hit against Tony now. I pretty much thought he was letting the thing with Junior go because he realized the position he put Junior in by telling him 'your the boss' and then sneaking around behind him running the show. But I wasn't sure.

Now I am just so upset that nothing ever happens to Dr. Melfi's attacker. This is awful! I can't believe that she just let it go, or that her son and partner let it go. Very sad.

Season 4 is not on video yet. Anyone care to give me an idea what's ahead?

My husband is a big fan, but I gave up watching it because it just didn't hold my interest, especially after the very long hiatus. I will watch it if it is on, but I don't go out of my way to watch it. I feel very little sympathy for the characters (other than Dr. Melfi), and I hate seeing the violence. My daughter went downstairs the last time my husband was watching it, and she started watching it and asking questions about what the people were doing. I need to keep her away.

I have watched some of the earlier episodes from this season (the 4th), and the only things I can remember are Adriana is being pursued by the FBI, Ralph is as much of a waste of skin as he's always been, Carmela has an eye for Furio and Meadow actually decided to buckle down with school. You can check out more at http://www.hbo.com/sopranos/episode/...isode_40.shtml

I had a dream I was going to marry Furio last night! LOL

Never watched (don't have cable) but was interested in the post that said you'd never let your child watch.

We know someone whose child was on the show. (Not that we think much of this person, must add ...) Sounds not-so-good for that child.

Amyrpk--it is a very R rated show. Constant bad language, graphic violence (a stripper has her head bashed in by an angry mobster, people get bullets to the head, beatings) explicit sex scenes (often demeaning to women), and nudity (topless strippers are everywhere since the main characters use a strip club as their headquarters).

However, from what I have read over the years, child actors almost never see anything outside of the scenes they shoot. I don't recall seeing many children on the Sopranos...there was a santa scene with lots of kids, and maybe extra's in the scene at AJ's school. At any rate, I doubt those kids are on the set when the R rated stuff is being taped.
