Janulicious June Thread #2 - Page 16

Sheri, yah, time to move on! Maybe a fp would be better than a pedi for you? We did the 2 mo. at 3 months, and then skipped 4mo because she knew we were delaying. I'm going to schedule 6 mos somewhere between 7-8 mos. and take in a schedule of when I might consider vaxing and ask her what she thinks... I'm sure she'll want to hurry it up, although she did say it was ok to skip polio, chicken pox, hepb, and something else... I'm still learning though, and we might do tetanus, mmr later (like teen years) and such..

OOooh mailman loves me. I got my cafepress package, some wool wraps, and lily padz. I must say the lily padz rock. They are sticky silicone breast pads... I look like I'm wearing clear pasties, :LOL but they are WAY more comfy than paper or cloth and I'm really full on one side and not leaking and not wearing a bra. I like. I got 2 sets because I know I won't remember where I put them. They aren't going to be an every day all day thing, I do like my nipples to get air, but wow, I think I could wear a t-shirt and no bra and go out in public like this. Oooh or a strapless top. Hmm.. now I'm thinking!

Gotta potty and maybe do a yoga tape or something.

Laura --It's a bra (mind is actually like a sports bra/band kind of thing) with holes in it. You poke the plastic pump cups through the holes, put on the bra, and hook yourself up to the pump. Hands free pumping, and you can do both at once. You can make one, too, but just cutting a couple of holes in an old bra. That Jan at home site (here) that has the sling patterns has a pattern for a pump bra, too.

Lisa--lactose shouldn't be a problem for our babes, since our milk has lactose in it. My prenatals have a small amount of soy lecithin in it. But seriously, how sensitive can she be? Hrmph. This is a real puzzle.

I had a bunch of things I wanted to say this morning, but I've completely forgotten by now. Well, time to eat. One of two babies is sleeping, better take advantage.

Oh, Annie, no mochi at my whole foods. I'll have to visit Central Market (the 700-cheese gourmet food place) next . . .
Laura - http://www.easyexpressionproducts.com/ - we could all be so sexy and sit at work and pump

Joyce - yah *smacks self on head* there is something like 5x more lactose in bmilk than cow milk. But there is SOME dairy derivitive in many vitamins. Soy lethecin is a fat, so it shouldn't bother her, although I know one *very* sensitive soy allergy gal who has hives w/soy, only gets hay fever symptoms with soy lethecin. Go figure.

It's COLD here today. Ok not cold, but compared to 95 a week ago, it's cold. I'm in yoga pants and a tshirt and have goosebumps.

Yeah even if we could stay with that ped we wouldn't be. Jessi, dh is going to call and ask before we make an appt with another ped. We tried the only family practice dr in town and she was the one saying we'd talk about starting formula at the next visit. Drs just annoy me so much. I would just not go if it were up to me but dh insists that the baby needs a dr in case she got sick. (Her eye has almost cleared up completely)I really feel the vax are wrong, at first it was just my gut telling me so, but the more I think about hem the wronger they seem. I would take a blood transfusion or organ transplant becuase I beleive it goes against god and nature to do so, just like I beleive that injecting disease into our babies, and ourselves, is not what god would want either. I'm really bad at discussing spiritual matters with anyone, I keep my beleifs very close, I feel that its between god/high power and I and nobody else. So of course I was just like we're not doing vax right now and it wasn't open to discussion. DH thinks they're mostly unnessary was just like "they made her cranky" so I'm sure we looked like a bunch of loons :LOL me just "nope, just the kid a check up and shut your mouth" and lost looking dh
DH is all afraid that we'll never be able to find a dr that will take dd as a patiant and that she'll never get into school, he doesn't feel strongly about it at all. Its very frustrating.

She weighed 12lbs 4ozs, she weighed 10lbs 2ozs at her 2month check up, in the beg of April. So it wasn't a big weight gain, but it don't think it was super low. Maybe I'm wrong here.

I'm all wrapped up in this dr bs and I need to let it go some
post #305 of 425
Hey Sheri, are there any DOs in town, instead of MDs? Usually they are a little more open to things other than vax.
Dh is right in a way, if she has a doc who has a history with her, she's likely to get better care if something does come up. If she doesn't have a doc and you get the on-call at the hospital, you'll have to fight for everything you want, and being a mama with a very sick babe and feeling panicked at the ER is not my idea of a good time, hence the reason we're going back to the pedi at least sorta-regularly.

Lauren still sleeps, dh has gone to get his hair cut, I'm going to push furniture around until he gets home and makes me stop! :-P
post #306 of 425

Oh . . .

Lisa and anybody else interested, Babydophilus is a powder, but it supposedly mixes better with water (or bm or whatever) than the other stuff does. Bought it. What the heck, no harm trying.

Sorry you're having such troubles with your MD, Az.

Andy, when do you people get out of school there? It's so hot I can't believe the kids are still having to go to school. It's summer, you know? Yuck.

Karen, what's the camp all about?

Annie, got your LLL pub. It's a cool little thing. DH was all excited to get mail from Hawaii, he ripped it open right away. Since we all like mail so much maybe we should do a postcard exchange or something for the summer, just for fun.

Time for diaper change and somebody wants to make sure I know about it . . .
Oooh Joyce, yah! I wanna do a postcard exchange!
Mmm, yummy baby. She's been so cuddly and silly and playful the last few days. Major quality baby-nibbling time.

Sheri: Sorry about the doc suckiness. Maybe look in surrounding towns, if your town is small and you don't have many options? Desiree on the vax forum has a list for each state of non-vax-friendly docs if you pm her.

The weight gain is about 4 oz/week, right? That's not bad at this age, I didn't think Kellymom has charts.

Lisa: did your Dh behave himself after you got home?

Our water is way over-chlorinated too. I have a brita pitcher but i don't think it's doing much good. I'd rather bottled water again. Sometimes my laundry even gets faded streaks in it. One of my new green tank tops looks tie-dyed now. At least it doesn't look bad.

Drat, I forgot last night that I wanted to get fruit to make smoothies. I think I'll check out the farmers' market tomorrow. I'm thinking peaches/nectarines. It's nice and stormy outside. Think I'm gonna go nibble the baby some more. She's getting squirmy. Have a good afternoon all.
Whew! Hi all!!! WE had such a great, but very busy dasy yesterday , and we have another one today, so sadly I'm not getting to chat with you all as much as I want to

Az- oh, what an a$$ that doctor was. I agree with Jess, wonder how he got through med school and move on. I would look up a naturopath or a DO if I were you. Also, perhaps your midwife can recommend a friendly doc? I know they usually keep lists of that kind of stuff. Hugs to you mama. Keep trying. Oh, and DO NOT buy anymore strawberry soakers!!! I repeat DO NOT buy anymore strawberry soakers! :

Jessi - my super secret custom cloth eez are on their way and I LOVE them!!!! I am so excited about how they look. I will post pics when they get here. Hopefully that will be today

No mochi at Whole Foods?!?!!?!? Try the Asian Market.

Lisa - sorry dh is being a tool. Glad Lauren likes the pool and you got some good crafting in. So, you got the powershot?? Cool! I have to figure out how to get mine off the manual setting, so if you figure it out, lmk!

Laura - hugs. I'm always exhausted too. Are you still taking your prenatals? I take those and liquid chlorophyll, or yellow dock tincture and that helps my energy a ton. They both work to re oxygenate the blood, cleanse the liver and are safe while breastfeeding. Oh, and a cup or two of coffee never hurts :LOL

Karen -what kind of camp is Noam at?

Oh, ok -- gotta go, but I love you all Have a super day!

Ooh, I wanna do a postcard exchange!!!
Yah, dh behaved himself a bit last night. I really did need a break.

Annie, I got the 410, since it's the "old" model, it was way less $$.

So I dragged this big bound carpet up to the living room from the basement, my plan was to unroll it, vac and shove it under the furniture. Well there are a few stains on it, and it's nearly bright white compared to the room, and it's just not working for me. But I'm also too worn out to roll it back up and take it back downstairs

So I'll just sit like a bump and let dh do it when he gets home.
You guys are fun.

Liquid chlorophyll - that stuff tastes HORRIBLE. I'd rather be sleepy all day than have to drink a tree each morning.

We're very lucky with our FP. The midwife recommended her. She says, "No vax? Okay." Checkups are birth, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. She's also a chiropractor and naturalist - how cool is that?

Lisa, that bra looks pretty handy. On the rug - give it a week, and it won't be so white. Did DH get a clue, or not? Tell him we said, "Welcome to fatherhood! Now stand up and act like it." Mine is likely coming out to Cleveland for business in a few weeks - should I send him to give yours a schooling? :corporal punishment smiley:
LOL Jessi, sure Actually, let your dh know if he needs something - ride from the airport, whatnot (we're like 3 min. from the airport) I'd be glad to help out.

UGH I'm TIRED. I was going to try and do a yoga tape, but *yawn* I'd rather just watch the tree blow.
Oh, on the diaper buying -- I suppose if we are going to be addicted to crack, its better this kind than the latter! :LOL
post #315 of 425
So I have a question...

Are all of your dh's on board with all the cosleeping, no vaxing, cding, etc?

My dh isn't really. I think he would like to vax (because everyone else does and they're fine), cio/no cosleep (because everyone else does and they're fine) and just use sposies (much easier). The funny thing is when ever we're talking to some one else he's always 100% behind me, but when we're talking alone he fights me on everything.

I would like to do a postcard swap!
Ooh, I wanna do a postcard exchange! I'm thinking we designate one person to send all of our addys to, and then that person can compile them all into one email and send them out to everyone on the list... if I get like 10 emails with addresses, I know I will lose or delete some of them. :

Yuck. I finally made myself some nice yummy coffee (been craving coffee for days but it's been too hot), sugared and rice milked it all up, stirred.. and there was an ant floating in it. So I poured it out and I guess I only get one cup instead of two now.

Jess: My DH is sometimes more onboard than I am with stuff. He was raised fairly NFL, although not necessarily AP. The only thing he doesn't really "get" is GD. We've got time to work on that though. It's funny, he's got this one guy in his office, grizzled old right-wing conspiracy theorist type, definately not a kid person, and they always hang out talking politics... and two of their recent conversations have been about vaxes and formula companies. :LOL Not that this guy's going to have kids and use the info, but maybe he'll pass it along, who knows.

It should be pretty easy to show him evidence that *everyone's* not fine who does that stuff. Even the most diehard pro-vaxxers admit that there are reactions, and you can't always predict who will have them. I haven't read the CIO vs no CIO studies so I'm not sure where to come from there, but I know there was stuff about cortisol levels. And sposies easier... well, I guess he'll be the one running to the grocery at 3 am when you run out, eh? Sheesh, I even think CDs are easy for me and I use mostly pf's and hang to dry. Ooh, I know, make him wear plastic-coated paper undies for a few days. :LOL And then there's the dioxin thing. That was a big, big deciding factor for me.

Honestly though, maybe he's just sort of hashing out his argument, playing devil's advocate without realizing it kinda. If you don't think he's seriously trying to talk you into that stuff, maybe it's not worth the argument. Smile and nod.

Gonna go bake some chicken for dinner, and REAL PIEROGIES. Do you know how hard it is to find pierogies that don't have potato in them around here? This is even pretty big Polish area, and all the pierogies have been corrupted, but we found some last night that weren't.
What is supposed to be in a pierogie if not potatoes? We always make them with potatoes. It's hard enough to find pierogies at all.

Jess, so glad DH stands up for you in public! That's big.

The postcard exchange sounds great.

My DH goes along with stuff. He is not too hot on extended cosleeping, but I told him: as long as she's nursing at night, she's sleeping in our room. He's good with the cloth diapers, although he rolls his eyes at the variety. (I'm narrowing it down! I swear!) He's very pro-homebirth, and fine on not vaxing. He even does no-poo with me.

hee hee Jessi! I do like the way you think! Oh, my so so sore nipple. I told dh I'd rather have a masectomy on that side than give up nursing (which he actually suggested ).

Az - fire the doc. and next time, fire them FIRST! They can not LEGALLY tell you you can't come back, you are protected under the CONSTITUTION. It's interesting that doctors are so caught up in the vax world that they have forgotten they are treating PATIENTS, not COMPANIES...ok, rant mostly over.

Glad you mamas are all loving your new diapes! I've got a couple of used ones coming, but otherwise we're just cruising along in our moes and cpf's. : Got my mesh sling today, though, and a wool diaper cover and hemp inserts from Liz's, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE! She has such cute fleece on top, and they are very trim. Fit so well in everything!

Laura - newfound love and respect for your pumping. I know it must be SO hard. I hand pumped today (because although it hurts to do it, it hurts WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY less then when he's chomping on the nipple (man o man does that every send me through the roof!), and didn't even get an ounce. I know when I used the big mama machine it was easier to get 2-4 oz, and then there's milkolicious Jessi over there! But still, it's such a commitment to your baby's health. Well done MAMA!! Don't lose heart! And Jessi - I think it's great that she's loving her food. Every baby is doing it on their own schedule. She's certainly well within normal!

Lisa - Have you tried the mei tai recently? Easy enough to nurse in it, but not if she's on your back (woah - that'd be a stretch :LOL )! also you can double up slings so that one goes over each shoulder she's in one and the other goes around the first one. A bit unweidly at first, but once you've got the hang of it... Or a mei hip?

What kind of camera did you get?

Ok, time to go figure out how to make a no-wheat quiche, cause I do love a crust! Caio! Andy

Oh, and we want to do postcards too!!! Anyone want to organize it? I can, if noone else wants to...
Oh Andy, don't entice me to find more carriers Actually I think on my hip will be just as bad for pain right now, I'm going to try the 2 sling thing, I have 2 mayas. I can't for the life of me nurse in the MT, she's just too tall and my boobs are too small.

I just make quiche w/o crust. Eggs and crap into a pot and bake.

Camera: Canon digital ELPH - powershot s410 or something. Very tiny, very fun. Now I need a real media card, the 32 mb is just not enough.

Dh's and choices - my dh learned before we were married to repeat while mumbling "whatever mama wants" and if I can present it to him with half a brain, he'll go along w/it. He wasn't interested in doing the vax research, so he just does what I say. CD was sorta his idea - I said "I wanna do cloth" and he said "Ok, it's good for the environment, let's do it" - his mom also did cloth with his 1/2 sis, so he had experience. For cosleeping I presented it as "if she's in a crib and she wakes, you have to get up, go get her, change her dipe, bring her to me to eat, and then take her back to the crib EVERY time, or she can sleep with us." that was an easy choice for him. Ebf'ing, well he gets no choice there, especially since he sees how much her belly hurts when I have bad food, he knows to back me up w/his family on the waiting for solids bit. Hrm what else is there.. oh GD, he has no freakin clue. He thinks (he said this the other day) that "you have to spank them once so they have the fear of spanking so they behave" - needless to say, I'm reading Alfie Kohn now so I can start teaching him. I asked him if we could raise kids w/o spanking, and he said he didn't think so, and I asked him if he'd try if I did it and he followed my lead. I suppose if I educate him NOW, we might get to a point where he can follow my lead in a few years and it'll work. He's a babywearer (at least in our neighborhood and out, but not yet in front of his family) and uhh.. what else is there in crunchy land? His mom is a wannabecrunchy, so the NFL thing is familiar, although she's a "status crunch" - you know, the ones you visit who say "wanna eat some ORGANIC pears or ORGANIC chips?" :LOL He totally bought into my no-poo scheme (saving me like $6 a month in shampoo now!) and what else is there? I hooked him up on Dr. Weil's site and now he takes echinacea and ginko and it's fun to watch him change.

Could someone PLEASE tell me how/why nutritional yeast is different from the yeast I just put in pizza dough, and where do you find some in the NFS? Is it in seasonings? Next to regular yeast? Where???
