Wildlife Mamas: I have a baby crow here - Page 2

OK. She has definitely been eating, she ate about 2 tsp canned dog food and a couple cut-up grapes so far. Her poops are runnier than I'd like to see, but then I don't really know what crow poop is supposed to look like -- I'm judging by the consistency of healthy chicken poop. She is perching on the little perch I gave her (she perched on the edge of the water bowl before).

I'm going to call a friendly vet I know Monday, explain the situation and ask if he'll take a look and not charge me, since I don't want him to *treat* anything, just most likely tell me what to do.

Um, I was just out in the backyard feeding her and there is an adult crow flying from point to point around our yard (not *in* our yard, but like in the neighbors') cawing. It's been out there 20 minutes. I know crows have a really strong tribe instinct and will defend each others' nests, so ... is this likely to be Mom (we found her about 3-4 blocks away) or some other concerned adult, or what? I don't think it's coincidence.

oh no!!

Oh, I'm sorry. It must have had internal injuries that you just couldn't see. It happens a lot. You did your best, I wish there were more people willing to help out an animal in need.

I'm sorry.

Ohh, I'm so sorry!

I was so hopeful while reading from beginning to end. The others are right you did your best...some people(such as the wildlife rehabs that wouldn't take the crow) wouldn't do anything. That's so upsetting.
Thank you, for helping that baby bird.

Oh, Kristin. I'm really sorry! Thank you for trying!

Oh, and the poops were fine. Crow poop is not anything like chicken poop - it is much runnier. It might have been the mother but crows live in big communal groups so it could also have been another bird from the same group.

I figured something wasn't right when I woke up this morning and didn't hear it cawing like I did yesterday morning ... poor thing. I figure even if it was stressed out, and in a cage, that was a better way for it to go than being ripped to shreds by a raccoon or something, at least.

Ds has been saying he's grateful it was alive for a while so we could help it :

OH, I wanted to add that if it died in a day at your house, it most likely would have died in a day at the rehab. We have about an 80% success rate with animals that make it past the first 24 hours. Just so you don't feel bad that you couldn't get it to someone right away.
