My Experience with my child's school re: vax - Page 5

I am happy to see that most people have had no problems.

It saddens me to recall all of the people who, in my face, told me I was so wrong, all of my life.

With this in the public consciousness, maybe people will learn to consider another person's POV without ridiculing them.

moving on...

I'm curious as to why you are opting out for your pap-smear.
And what does it mean to "not retract" your son's foreskin?

By "not retract" I mean not to push back (forceably) his foreskin; there isnt' any reason to do so, and can do much harm (check out the circ board for more info).

I don't do pap smears; I have some alternative views on them and feel that they can do more harm than good (with false positives and invasive procedures and so forth). IMO, they are equivalent to prenatal testing, which I don't do, either.

The visit went great! Turns out the doc's son is intact, he didn't care about the pap, and was totally cool with non vax. Yay

I homeschool in Martinsburg for the same reason - Vax's

When I moved here this year from IN, I did have Medical exemption for 3 vax's which the school system refused to accept... The funny thing was the same district accepted the exemptions 4 years ago when I lived here. I still have religious beliefs for the ones I now refuse to give and my child is better off without them.

Kristi do you take any sort of viatmins to support cervical health? I ask this because I had an abnormal pap and have not gone back yet for the repeat and want to try and "boost" my cervcal healthy before I go again. Would like to hear your thoughts?

I want to say that it is so comforting to see so many other informed smart women making the choice not to vax their children. It just feels nice to *belong* to a group somewhere and not be *crazy* as all other people on earth (it feels like sometimes) consider our decisions to not vax.

I too had an abnormal right before I got pregnant. Hoping to pick up some hints before going back for a follow up.

I just re-enrolled my daughter in kindergarten today- since we moved into a different school district had to register her at a new school. They handed me the forms, which I filled out and returned. The secretary looked at the blank immunization form and was like, well we need dates and times do you know them and are you getting them later? I was like, no, she's exempt. She turned the paper over and was like, oh ok. So all's well that ends well. Relatively painless.

early intervention

i'm an occupational therapist who works in state-funded early intervention in cali. could be different in your state but, if the child qualifies for one-on-one services with a speech therapist i would be very suprised if they ask about his vax status. if he qualifies for small group services or preschool type services they may have a question about his vax status on an intake form. i do not think that the state can deny early intervention based on vax status. pediatric therapists themselves, while we don't make the "rules", are generally more open minded than the general public on this issue because most of us work with kids with autism. i would never discourage someone from pursueing early intervention services because of concerns about vax status. and if your acqauintance is given any grief, i'd encourage her to put up a good fight!

on the other hand, WIC services, nutitional support for lower income preg moms and young kids, i believe has some vax requirements.

hope that helps!

WIC doesn't require vaxes, but they do ask about them.

About my thoughts on pap smears, I don't have the energy right now to go into it all, but I started questioning them when I was 15 (I am 30 now). IMO, there are similarities with the vax industry (get vaxes or die and you're an evil, ignorant person); and women's health (get a pap every year or you could die, why the hell wouldn't you get a pap?), and I started researching and questioning everything. The stats of false positives on the paps (or rather, "abnormal" findings that turn out to be nothing at all) are incredibly high; most women at some point or another will get an abnormal result, without having or being at risk for cancer.........and the extremely invasive procedures pushed on women to "follow up" on an abnormal aren't necessary IMO, even some mainstream doctors say to just retest in six months, and if it's still abnormal go from there. Yet, many doctors don't follow that advice, they push all the tesing, which is painful and nerve wracking, when it isn't necessary.

I have a distrust of the medical community, and don't believe much of anything until I see or experience the proof, and I haven't found anything that indicates that routine paps are NECESSARY, or benefical for my health. Obviously, other peopel don't agree, and that's fine.

I'll write more when I have a chance

Missouri Daycare and Vax?

Missouri - St. Louis

Does anyone have any info on MO laws regarding Vax and daycare? We are looking for non-vax friendly daycare in the St. Louis area for our first baby (due Oct) for this upcoming January. Any suggestions?

beginning the vax exemtion proc.

So this process isn't so bad......but what is extremely challenging is figuring how to define my personal spiritual beliefs in a way that sounds "religious" in order to protect the health of my family. We live in Illinois and we don't have forms here, we merely have to write a letter. So I want to use some juicy quotes but not necessarily from the Bible (no offense anyone) and am wondering if others might have a few to share.
Thanks!!!

We are a homeschooling family, but a couple of years ago DD was in a birth to 3 program which does "require" vax. They handed me a form to fill out and sign and one of the items on the form offered philisophical exemptions for vax. I checked the box and signed the form
I haven't read all the way through so sorry if it's duplicated. I just enrolled ds into K3 at public school and as mentioned by stevie all I did is check the phisophical box on the back of the immunization form. He starts officaly on Sept. 9th so i'll post any updates. I had no problems at all.

Illinois

Well I submitted my religious exemptions for both myself (college) and dd (preschool) by mail over a week ago and I have heard nothing back from either school, so I am guessing all is

Dd's school was founded by Christian Scientists so I knew the exemption wouldn't be a problem there, it was just figuring out how to word the letter (thanks for the help LI and CB). For both schools, in the letter requesting vax records it stated that their were medical and religious exemptions available. The only thing that confused me at first was dd's school said there was a form to fill out and submit (which the Christian Science church may have for their members) so they probably assumed all religions had the same type of thing. I spoke with the admissions person (her dh is the dean of the school) and she did her own research into the documentation that was required and realized that there is no "form" for IL religious exemption.

Also, on dd's physical form the dr asked if we were vaxing (she had some in the beginning) and I said no, so she crossed out the vax section, even though she has had some shots and wrote religious exemption.

Update from previous post

I posted just before my dd started pre-k. I was worried about what might happen. Well I took her papers in and gave them to the teacher and that was the end of it :LOL Unless they sneak something in on me later for now it is over *big sigh*
post #100 of 204
speaking of sneaking things in later, I received a letter today from my ds' school saying that I needed to take his immunization record in by 10/26 or he won't be allowed to return and they even wrote "No Records!" across the little chart where they are supposed to circle which one(s) the child is missing. Well, duh, flip it over and look for the exemption. I am not feeling well today but I will call tomorrow and see if by some chance I forgot to sign the exemption on his form but I doubt it. I'll update here after I talk to them.
