How to find a CNM?

Ok, I was getting great info in a couple other threads but now I am at the point where if I want this hb covered I need to find a CNM... not to mention that I would like to find one I actually like. From talking to a CPM there are very few CNMs who will do homebirth. She mentioned the name of one, but didn't have any more info than her name (which I wrote down). So does anyone else live in a state where ONLY CNMs are recognized, and very few do hbs? If so how did you go about finding one?

I went to the Tricare homepage and only one practice was listed as in network, and it is at Duke University, and I am assuming they only do the birth center / hospital. How do you find a list of people to call???

BTW I am in NC. I tried nchomebirth.com but I entered my info in their site over a week ago with only one responce.

Have you tried the ACNM site? There's a "find a midwife" link at the top of their page.

Due to the legalities, it may be difficult to find a cnm to do a hb in NC. I only knew of a few lm willing to practice in that area (I lived there 8 years ago).

Good luck!!

Thank you so much! I ended up finding the lady I was looking for. Turns out I was spelling her name wrong, duh! And she is the only one listed within 100 miles that is a CNM and does hbs, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Does anyone else have any links I could check??? I did a search for midwifes nc and I got about 100 pages of mostly crap. I am going to try and weed through them again this morning.

I did look there, and no listings. However, I got in contact with the one CNM I know who does hbs and she won't travel to my area. She also mentioned that there were a couple more but they were farther away and also don't travel that far.

Maybe you could also try this link:

http://www.nchomebirth.com/index.html

There's a bunch of info on that website about midwifery in NC.

HTH!
