Where do you get your cloth wipes (for family cloth)

I'm switching us over to cloth wipes completely (well, except for dh, he said that he doesn't feel comfortable having me clean his poop wipes, LOL). TMI, I know. :LOL

Soooo, where do you get yours? We don't have much extra money right now, so I can't really afford to spend too much (most of our extra cash flow is going into yarn for the store, etc, sigh).

So bring on the spam! LOL

For family TP we use Liz cloths from www.diaperware.com There are one layer and wash up great!

For washing or wet wipes we use velour/sherpa wipes www.preciousdignity.com

I bought a patterned flannel sheet at Goodwill and cut it with pinking shears into 8" squares. It was enough for all the wipes we could possibly need and it cost $4.

I was wondering the same thing? I was tempted to just go to the fabric store (or the thrift shop), but I was wondering if they would fray since I don't have a serger?

They fray a little. Not much. And not in those big stringy globs, if you cut them with pinking shears.

u can also buy flannel from the fabric stores (most usually have some in the $1 bin) and make 2 layer wipes. i did that for baby wipes and they have lasted 14 months so far. i only spent $5 for 5 yards. and did not need nearly that much. lots of fabric is still in my closet.

Ebay!!! I've found some excellent deals on Ebay. Just search for 'cloth wipes'. And 'cloth pads'.

Pinking shears are scissors that cut in a zigzag pattern. They may not be a wise investment for you, since they cost about $18. I get lots of use out of them because I sew often, though.

You could, if you have a sewing machine, sew a line of small stitches around each wipe instead. Theoretically the wipe would ravel till it reached your stitches & then stop raveling.

Another idea is cheap rags that come in bags at hardware or auto stores. Just not the red ones. They turn all the laundry pink :

i go with ebay also!!!! they also have great deals on all other cd stuff. one WAHM makes wonderful wool covers and they are next to nothing compared to name brands..... awwww ebay

I just cut up one of my dh's old shirts. I didn't use pinking shears, and they look ragged, but they didn't fray, they just curl up at the edges, which is OK by me.

We also have TP for guests and if we're not feeling like cleaning them up. (I think my dh only uses them when he uses our bidet, but I haven't asked... I'm going to miss having a bidet when we move )

I bought a few dozen kissaluvs seconds wipes and made my own out of $1 a yard flannel. I just cut the flannel with regular scissors and did a zig zag stitch around the edge, they had a few strings after the first wash, but that was it. I know people that have used the cordoroy with a fine rib to it too, or cheap washcloths.

When my boy was newborn, I just used a cut-up old flannel sheet. It frayed and I didn't care; one sheet made a gazillion wipes, which was what we needed for the million-times-a-day-pooper. When he started eating solids and got, er, chunkier poop, I switched to cheap washcloths (the kind you can get a dozen for a few bucks at Target). They work great and we're still using them - the texture really helps with big boy poop (plain flannel smears it about).

For cheap- I just use baby washcloths. You can get packs at the dollar store, and barely used ones from children's resale shops.

For function- I like microfleece. I can't recommend where to get them though, mine were given to me.

you can buy toilet top bidets for around $300. do a search online. toto chloe washlet is the one i have.

Dana calls them Family Shell Wipes and also makes a kid size in addition to her adult size ones. We switched over to cloth wipes two years ago (summer 2003) and dh said he would not use them initially too, but guess what--he now comments on the "disgusting" tp he has to use at work. LOL :LOL
