Well, it's been a week or so and Ms Kitty is not coming home...
We got her in August 2001. She was 1 yr old at the time. My parents in law had gotten her from a litter my SIL's cat had. That mother cat and the rest of the kittens were all shortly killed in the road, a country lane where cars go whizzing by, country people just take it in stride. My in-laws, tho, kept Ms Kitty inside. They had her declawed so she wouldn't scratch the furniture.
After a year, MIL decided Ms Kitty left too many white hairs around the house, and wanted to get rid of her. We quickly decided we would adopt her glady. We already have 3 cats and a long haired mutt, not to mention long haired people, so one more would make absolutely no difference!
Ms Kitty, while very sweet, was pretty neurotic from being kept inside. Esp when she noticed the rest of the cats going in and out. So we decided to let her run with the pack, so to speak. She was thrilled with her new cat life. We live in a quiet suburban neighborhood, very safe, full of cats and kids and cars always go slow. She just had a ball outside, and could climb trees and hunt, even without claws. She would always come around when I was outside, so friendly and sweet. You just don't get a cat as nice as her every day.
She was pure white, and had extra toes. She was petite. She would get so thrilled whe you scratched her behind the ear, she would get weak in the knees, fall to the ground and squiggle with delight. She was so light, her little ears actually got sunburnt this summer! Her eyes were greenish gold. Whenever she sat on my lap, I felt blessed. She was too good to be true.
A couple days after Samhain, we realized she hadn't been around. We lit a votive candle in a cat shaped holderand put it out on the front stoop, and it stayed lit all night for her, even tho it was breezy.
Then we printed up 40 fliers and put them in all the neighborhood mailboxes. I am hoping some old lonely person saw her and her sweetness, and has just adopted her, and she is giving them joy. Of course I hope if she died, it was swift.
I dreamt last night she came home. My last memory of her was, I was sitting in my big reading chair, with her in my lap. I got up and had ds put our little quilt throw in a circle on the chair, and put her in it and she curled right up. We got a picture of her also in dd's arms, at Samhain, dd in her costume.
Of course, as a pagan, I know the veil between life and death is thin on Samhain, and since she was an angel already, maybe her mission to us was completed, and she had to go.
Sorry to go on and on about a cat, when others of you have lost human family members. but she was so dear! Blessings and healing to all of you.
Thanks for listening. I hope it is not too late, she there is still a chance she returns. Ms Kitty, i miss you! Meow--
