Yet again, what do I need for an Aqua Doula?

Hi, all,

I'm renting an Aqua Doula for my HBAC in August (and insurance is paying!). I know this question has been answered, but... I didn't save the answers.

What do I need?
* Adapter for tap (I have sink, tub, or shower easily available -- shower head seems like easiest connection? but what if I want a shower...)
* White RV type of hose
* Hose to drain (I think I even have a pump squirrelled away somewhere in my garage)
* I've heard people say they wanted something to sit on/prop up on in there? Anyone? I notice the AD site rents "booster seat cushions" so it must be something a lot of people want? What's a cheap easy way to meet this need? partially inflated birth ball? Seems kinda big.

Anything else?

I would have LOVED a bouster seat cushion. I felt like I was going to go under in mine.

My midwife says to have a new aquarium fish net to catch "debris" that fall in that need to be fished out like feces and stuff...

When I had Lily in Audrey's aquadoula pool, I had to have DH get behind me so I could bear up against him. I cant really think of anything I could have put in to do that, as I needed him to sometimes provide resistance.

Will your mw/doula have a strainer to strain the water before it gets drained out? Kinda yucky, but gotta ask! And do heaters come with it or not? I know Audrey's had a heater and a pump. I didnt get to pay any attention to any of that because I was too busy having a baby when they were setting it up!!!

heh heh, yes. I didn't have one my last birth so I had to have my midwife use this super cool strainer I had for cooking to do the poop scoops with. Bummer!

About that fishnet.....
I had a mom who I'll call McGuyver, and for good reason. They couldn't find a fishnet so they made a debris collector of their own. You take a hanger and cut it so that it's about half the size it was (wire hanger). Bend it into a shape resembling a diamond. Cover the newly formed hanger with a plain leg of pantyhose, leaving it a little slack so that you can tie it. Bend the diamond-shape in the middle just a bit to make it sort of scooped-out. This worked like a CHARM at removing debris! I'm planningon making my own for mybirth this winter!

This is Audrey's :-) I'll add swim trunks for DH and a strainer! Thanks :-)

birth ball is going to try and float even partially inflated and would probably try and roll as well

if it is the cushion that I have seen used that looks like a very small innertube with fabric covering it and stretched in the middle of the circle too-- you fill it with water so it stays under it is helpful but too small-- I recommend someone planning on being in the tub with you to help support
there is also a plastic liner and a tarp to go on the floor and something to cover to keep dust out and warmth/humidity in
also think about toddlers-- if one is going to get into the tub with you you may want water wings or a life-jacket

also for someone who would be sitting around the outside of the pool a plastic kitchen stool

Due in mid-August sometime. 6 more weeks to maternity leave -- yay! :-) I am going to try to bring DD to the homebirth meetup at Pullen Park on 25 June (4pm I think?) -- maybe meet you there?

Thanks, everyone for GREAT ideas. I feel like I'm going on a beach trip with water wings and noodles and stuff ;-) hehe I can't wait.
