what did she mean by "the whole La Leche League scene". What's the stigma of supporting LLL?
I dunno... the notions I had of LLL kind of freaked me out, too... till I went with a friend. Now I'm a card-carrying, "New Beginnings" reading, LLL member.

Too many misconceptions... folks who are uncomfortable with breastfeeding find LLL a convenient target, I guess. Most people who don't "like" it have never been to a meeting.

I once had a conversation with a mom in my mom and baby group who was planning on weaning her soon to be one-year-old son. She said, "I just can't nurse until age 5 like those La Leche League women tell you to!" I asked, "Have you had a bad experience with La Leche League?" and she said, "no, I've never been." I think that pretty much sums up some people's attitude towards LLL. They assume "those women" would look down on them for not nursing long enough, or something, but they never bother to go to a meeting to find out if it's true.

I think that's the first time i've ever agreed with a conservative commentary!
