Is anyone thinking slings yet? What else are you buying? - Page 2

I've heard good things about the Amby hammock, too. A friend has one so maybe her dd will outgrow it by the time I need it and she won't mind loaning it to me.

Heavenly and Sleepymama, I'm sorry to hear about your SID and PPD. I didn't have early onset PPD (had a few early anxiety attacks but not too many), but did develop depression that finally sent me spiralling at about 19 months. I don't have SID but score pretty high up the "highly sensitive person" scale. In hindsight, I can see that some of same things you mentioned (high needs child, sleep deprivation) were definitely big-time contributors to my PPD. So if a swing and/or a vibrating seat work with this baby, I'm darn sure going to use them sometimes! I just didn't get a break for 2 years with my dd. Please, please let me get a sleeper this time!

i totally agree! my dd HATED the sling for whatever reason, and had parts of the day where she would just whine and i couldn't figure out why - then i realized if i put her in her swing, she was fine...and would usually fall asleep. i felt so guilty and would pick her up after like 5 min until i read something "never try to make a happy baby happier." then dr sears book said something to the effect of, overusing those "things" only becomes a problem if you have a baby who is content to sit in them all day....trust me - i did NOT have that type of baby!!!

anyway, kind of off subject, but i finally realized that bouncy seats and swings were not evil, my dd LIKED them for whatever reason, and every once in a while i got to make dinner.

I agree, not evil when used for their intent. Evil when baby is clearly not happy and being forced stay in.

You all got me thinking about slings now. I'm thinking of getting a hotsling. I like that I can order it by size. I'm a BBW with a VERY LARGE chest. Most slings don't work for us. Can't wait till September when I can get one

The cotton pouches (or even fleece pouches) are really easy to make. They will take you all of a half hour, seriously. Look up reverend jan's page--she has a pouch sling pattern that is free for personal use. There are probably links on the sewing and crafts forum here.

That's the one I made. I made myself a fleece one and a cotton stretch one. If you buy cotton stretch twill (there are lots of patterns available at joann's) you'll get a bit more wear out of it. I am pretty sure that is the same kind of stuff as hotslings stretch pouches.

Slings- I don't think I can buy anymore for this babe I have:

1 Zolo cotton ring sling
1 Zolo silk ring sling
1 Zolo cotton stretch pouch
2 Hotslings
1 KKAFP
1 Kozy
1 Onbohimo
1 Solarviel ring sling from KK

I think that's it......... : I was seriously addicted for a while.

The only sling I think I might get is a KKACP. I used the fleece alot when DS was a newborn. But it gets soooo hot early here that I won't get to wear it very long with this babe.

I will be getting a Hotsling for the new babe, and possibly a wrap but I am going to wait and see how it goes. I already have 2 Taylor Made ring slings and a Kozy...but if this new little one is as much of a sling baby as Devlin was (and is! ) I might invest in a wrap from the beginning...
