feng shui - Page 2

thanks, mhm!

yay! one more thing to become obsessed about!

does sub, or even semi-conscious play a role in this? cuz even if i covered the door, and stopped using it, i would still remember it being there.. and thus, might have even more neg effects due to blockage.. ?
I don't think so. I think it just has to do with energy entering or leaving or swirling in the wrong direction, as in, building up in stead of flowing. It's pretty physical, so to speak. I think if you have a couch in front of it and you aren't even using it, that is probably plenty - but take a look at it and imagine where the energy is going, sometimes that helps. You could probably put a small mirror on the outside, too.

Cheers!!

thanks mystichealermom,

i'm definately going to start studying this again.. last time i got into it i got depressed cuz at the time i was living in a crappy ant-infested basement suite with three tiny shoebox windows..

i found a bagua if anyone's interested.. http://www.bartlettdesigns.com/fengs...uaoctagon.html

hi all,
i'm a feng shui near-idiot, and your thread intrigued me. esp. lee's mention of a prosperity corner. i have a beginner's book i got years ago that talks mostly about energy flow and colors and such. i looked at the bagua Mamabeard posted and wondered how you apply an octagonal shape to a rectilinear house. aren't homes supposed to be rectangular or square?
the general area my prosperity corner would be in the kitchen as far as i can tell. i think that may not be good.
what are you supposed to do to create/enhance a prosperity corner?
any replies would be greatly appreciated, assuming it's not too complicated to go into,
susan

just make it into a rectangle

don't worry about the octogon....

If you house is a rectangle or a square..simply draw a little diagram of it...and then draw a little graph over it like tick tac toe or if your prefer this as a reference...Hollywood Squares...

the center square is health, just above center square is fame, kittycorner to the right is relationships....you get the idea.

and if your prosperity is the kitchen make sure all your burners on the stove are working properly, make sure your oven is working, if you need to clean it...then do it...
make sure the water coming out the pipes is good with a nice flow.. no leaks...
and keep the kitchen clean.

good luck

I just feel like posting this silly tidbit.

I'm here in Los angeles. And two years ago (or was it three) I can't remember, anyway, The Lakers left the forum and moved to STaples center. I'm not positive but I think a feng shui consulatant was used on that project. Because there was no reason for the Lakers to win the first year that they were there and yet they did. They went all the way.
And I beleive it happened again the second year.
Then, I just heard from a friend that this year they havne't been playing very well but yesterday in the end of the game they totally turned it around.
The building is oval shaped and there are interesting curves to it. I'm just guessing that there was a feng shui practitioner in the mix.

ON a similiar note. There is a tv show which is a basic sit com. A number of years ago when she show was just a pilot (first episode are called pilot..., to see if the show flies) the production offices were in a building which had a number of failed pilots. A lot of failures. The producers who had had a toe into feng shui waters brought in a practitioner and said, "fix these offices before we do our pilot. " The practitioner did his/her stuff.
The pilot was shot and the show went on to be a successful series.

This story has been verified by a couple of my friends who know these things...

And by the way, in my opinion there was no real reason for this show to be a success because the writing is tepid and the leads are really not that intersting. But it was considered a success and big money maker for its network.

and if you ask very kindly and enough of you ask I will tell you the name of that show. This is a sneaky way to get feng shui thread reactivated.

Trabot, I want to know which show!!!

How do I go about finding a fs practitioner? It's something I'd love to do, but I would have to do it in secret. Dh thinks I'm bad enough as it is.: Also, if he didn't know about it, he would be unbiased if things improved, right?

irishmommy, lets see if we get more postings about the show before I blow the secret.

re: feng shui....i feel very certain you will be able to find a fs practitioner in your area. I think there are a lot in canada in general especially since I know that there was a lot of movement from hong kong to canada before hong kong returned to mainland china.

I think if you do a search, maybe through google, just plug in feng shui and try your town or nearby...

And of course you can do it without dh knowing. I have a friend who has done it a lot without telling her partner. He fingure things out later, the buddha gave it way as I recall.

Was also reading about FS in The Tao of Health Sex and Longevity--where it mentions it not just in the context of your physical house, but *where* you live. Totally relevant for me, having lived in NYC for 15 years and feeling like a salmon swimming upstream--now in CA and life magically opens up.

i think I would work with both as the prosperity......
so, i would make sure all parts of that kitchen are working properly. oven, stove, do you have to light the pilot light often? how about the water flow, from the sinks, garbage disposal. I'd make sure to keep that area clean and working properly. I can't remember right now and I don't have a book infront of me, but I can't rememeber the color associated with prosperity....I think it might be purple....... if so, I'd get a couple accent pieces that were purple. Maybe a tea kettle or a rug...

As for the porch...keep it clean. And build something that activates it...maybe a little fountain on the back porch. You can build one easily...plants are good, make sure thriving plants...again you might want to reinforce the color. Colr pots cusions on chairs, throw rug... however you want to decorate the pporch.... but broken down bikes, tools, storage containers...etc. I'd rethink any of that kind of stuff

mamabeard, I believe you should concentrate on each enterence on how it is used. If the back door is used more, esp for visitors, you need to make that as clear of clutter as possible. And, yes, apply bagua from that door, or use a compass and draw a map of them acording to that...does that make sense
Sunmountain, I have a question:

My front door entrance always has clutter (mainly shoes). Is it OK to just throw the pile of shoes in the entry closet, or do I have to keep it neat and tidy? (and I totally missed what apply bagua was...)

Trabot - AWEsome story. I happen to be into woo woo, but if I were you I'd post it anyway. There may be some very open-minded moms on that board.

Now I want to learn more.

Ahhhh, me too... but I remind him I'm really NOT that bad... I've never gone on desert retreats to pray with anybody (I could ya' know!)

My question is - how do you know if someone is really GOOD?

I've studie feng shui and have too hard of a time with geometry to get it.

I have an aerial map of our home for the baqua and still can't get it.

I don't even know how to do a single room when it seems that it conflicts with the aerial!

But what I have really struggled with is the cost for a feng shui consultant to come to our home. We live in No Cal, and everyone I've contacted has been close to $1K. My DH won't go for that.

And, they've always requested the money to be in like, 90 small red envelopes and left in a certain place in the house and that sent my DH over the edge into 'ain't no way'...

Is that the norm for payment? All those red envelopes?

yikes! one thousand is a lot.
I've only paid a couple hundred.
I'm confused about the aerial... you mean an overhead like from a plane shot of your house?

One of the key elements to Feng Shui is decluttering and keeping things neat and tidy.

The shoes must be addressed.

I wouldn't throw them in the closet (keeping messes in the closet isn't the answer the things stored in the closet need to be stored neatly....oh, no, my diningroom closet needs my attention LOL)

The Japanese culture has a practice of taking shoes off upon entering the home. They have a shelf that is designed to hold shoes. If your family takes off its shoes at the front door you could set up a shelf or bench at the entryway and keep your shoes stored *neatly* there.

I have my sunroom in the wealth area of my home (not good feng shui) I have rows of pegs for holding coates, bookbags, etc. I am anal about the kids keeping this area neat (it's prone to chaios) and I don't want them keeping more than one jacket there. On the weekends they put their bookbags (and gi bags) in their own closets.

The bagua is a grid. Imagine a square divided into nine blocks (or divided pielike into eight wedges) each area has its designation for different aspects of life.

There are several schools of thought about how to situate the bagua upon the footprint of the house. The easiest for Westerners to grasp is to orient it with the front door in mind (or the door that people use)

I have the same problem with DH about Feng Shui. I don't even tell him *why* I insist upon certain things (like don't put piles of trash in the sunroom, it's our *prosperity* area for goodness sake LOL) He thinks I'm "witchey" or "spookey" when I talk that way.

Sigh and LOL at the same time
