How about a co-op for natural wool jersey fabric (not organic)?

... I think what I am really after is just some nice light "natural" colored wool jersey. And since I'm always interested in finding the best deal out there, I would be interested in doing a wool co-op if enough people are interested. I have spend much of the last few days trying to find current coops running that are doing wool and I just missed one and can't find any others. So... how much interest is there in natural colred wool jersey here? I'd be interested in up to about 10 yds. I am thinking the price would be about $7/yd or even less, not sure about that yet.

If anyone just happens to know of wholesale wool distributers or manufacturers that would have this, please please please let me know. I keep looking and finding nothing that looks like what I'd want.

I have a good source but the minimums are pretty high, I did however just get a ton instock - Eric might do a group order and give you a discount if anyone wanted to order in bulk - you know, if someone wanted to organize a co-op and cut and ship the bulk order. I'm not even sure if he'll do bulk pricing on wool, but the natural wool jersey is lovely it's worth asking probably!

I'm very interested! While organic wool sounds lovely, I just can't afford $15/yard right now. But $7/yard would definitely be doable.

I'm interested too, let me know where you end up finding the wool. Will you be able to sample it (or have you used this wool before)? Jersey's can differ so widely!!

LOL! I used to live in NC too... in fact, I think my sister may have met you at a cloth diapering party... were you at one? She mentioned someone who makes cute soft soled shoes...


Oh, and I will check with some fellow WAHMs about resources.

I'm in a for a few yards. I've been shopping around, but it is so expensive and a I really want some pants for dd. I prefer merino jersey.

Okay, price quote #1 for natural undyed wool jersey, weight approx 8-8.5 oz, price is about $10.95/yd, and this is not a bulk price, this is just regular retail price. Bulk pricing was not available. Oh, well.

Not quite what I was hoping for price-wise, so I will continue shopping around, and let you know if I find anything else. I had no idea undyed wool jersey would be so tough to find.

I'll do another quick search now whild DS is sleeping...

Hmmm...The Fabric Farm's undyed/untreated wool jersey (and interlock!) is $10.50/yard, non-bulk. Do you know if they do bulk orders?

Count me in too...granted I have to get some paypal up but yes....wool is good....I need to try making wool yummies now too....ahhhh! Way to many projects and not enough time! Hope you can find a good price. Please let us know.

another update

Okay, here's the update.

I think there will be a co-op starting for some natural undyed wool jersey/interlock, possibly both, maybe one or the other, through a yahoo group. I'll post here if that goes through with more details. I just haven't found anywhere (and am very frustrated about that right now!) to get a great wool deal, other than, possibly, this co-op. I don't have any "ins" with any wool/textile mills, and after days of searching the web, haven't found much that looks promising either.

So if you want undyed wool and you want it NOW, thefabricfarm.com has it in stock now for about $10.50/yd, and that's the best in-stock deal I've found.

If you want a great deal and don't mind waiting for a co-op to run through its cycle, check back here and hopefully I can give some more details soon!
