DD screamed the minute she hit air; she's still screaming, nearly three years later! LOL She was greeted in a warm, dimly lit room without noise and hulla-ball-ub.
#2 was born a bit blue and floppy. He wasn't even really grimacing or reacting. He needed a bit of mouth-to-mouth and oxygen to get him going. He stayed on my chest, with me gently massaging and talking to him, throughout these "procedures". He is still real mellow; he doesn't get riled up too easily. He is really laid back... it's funny how they came out with their own personalities, which have stuck with them 'til this day!

DD #1 had quite a trumatic birth. She was six weeks early aftrer ongoing problems in the pregnancy. If that wasn't bad enough she came out with her cord wrapped tightly around her neck. My MW couldn't get it her fingers underneath to slip it off and dd wouldn't come any further so the cord had to be cut before she was out. And then she was deep suctioned. So yeah she cried and really it was good to here her screaming her head off since we weren' sure if she would come out able to breath.

dd #2 came out quietly and with a smile on her face. Silly kid . She stopped breathing shortly thereafter and after more suctioning cried and cried and refused to nurse and took about 24 hours to get over the whole not breathing thing (she was just mad)

DS was born in the water at a freestanding birth center after a fairly fast, smooth, calm birth. I don't remember him crying until hours after the birth. He just stared all around with wide eyes checking us all out. Amazing.

I can't remember if my first one cried... second one, a water birth in the hospital cried as soon as he came out of the water... but he settled really quickly.

Come to think of it, the first baby cried too!

My dd was an unpanned unassisted home birth and she didn't cry until the paramedic took her off of me (about 10 min. after she was born). My ds was a dreadful hosp. birth but he didn't cry right away either ,he did have the cord wrapped around his neck twice though. They had to suction him really well to get him really crying but he was very pink and looked good to me before they did all the suctioning.
