anyone planning on using cloth PP?

anyone planning on using cloth pads post partum? I am going to start sewing a stash of cloth pads for PP tomorrow as I don't think my regular cloth pads are absorbant enough..I used disposables last time and it was just awful (as in comfort and the amount of waste)

anyway just wondering what you plan on using? also how many pads will I need? how many are you planning to have?

I'm planning on it, but my plan doesn't have any real plans yet. I'm thinking of sewing two days supply (whatever that is..) so I have enough to wash and wear at the same time.

Jamie, this is too funny--I went and looked at the website, and started thinking, "gosh, how many layers do you need? That's a LOT of fabric! and denim or twill? okay, I wouldn't have guessed, but I've never made pads before..."

I got some cloth PP pads from Little Lambs (she does diapers too - www.cutest-cloth-diapers.com) - in fact, the extra-strength ones will probably be used as diaper stuffers when I'm done w/them. they are all hemp and look comfy.

I had thoughts of making my own, but I'm the kind of person who starts a lot of things and doesn't finish most of them...so I just bought some. She sometimes has ebay auctions that are really reasonably priced (think I got all 12 of my pads for something like $16).

I used cloth pads pp last time and I loved them! I think I will probably go that route this time as well if I can find the time to whip some up. Otherwise I'll just use disposable (yuck!), but since when I stop pp I don't get a cycle, I really don't need the pads anyway.

thanks for the pattern mamas I was looking at the one from diapersewing.com with the inserts. I don't have a snap press though so I will use velcro.

one more question-will you use batting for yours?

I think I will make 2 dozen. that should be plenty for a couple of days I hope. I bled so heavily with ds after my c/s though (for 9 weeks-yikes!) I'm not really sure what to expect this time.

all I know is I can't wear those disposable pads again! ick.

I'll be using cloth PP, but I was just planning on using preemie prefolds until I could use my regular cloth pads. I hope that all works out.

I have a gazillion pads so I'll just double them up for when its heavy.

The pattern I used had inserts, but I think this time around I will try an AIO. I didn't use batting either. I recyled some underwear my DD1 had outgrown along with some cheap washcloths. lol! So it was a layer of cotton, two layers of terry, and another layer of cotton. They are soooo comfortable! I think I just talked myself into making time to make some! lol!

i use cloth all the time when i'm not preg (allergic to disposible) but i made a lot of extra for after ds was born. they were very simple. just a double layer of flannel in a square, about the size of a washcloth. i made a dozen or more and washed every day (doing dipes anyway). and i slept on a towel at night. well, i sat on towels durring the day, too, if i was just sitting on the couch the first few days - and just re-folded if i felt too wet.

but he was my first. i will probaby do a bit less sitting around this time and just wear my snap ones or fold ones in undies.

I'm planning to use cloth postpartum. I used some infant prefolds last time after I got sick of the sposies. I only had a chance to try cloth pads for two cycles before I conceived this baby so I'm kind of looking fwd to trying out my stash. I don't sew so I have a few brands to try including Daisy Girl Designs, Rhythm & Blues, TLC-pads, along with lots of prefolds.

Hey, I tested out one of the terry inserts before sewing it inside my pad liner and it sure felt nice! Helps with the undie problem too. I ended up making sort of a modified pad out of a couple of the patterns mentioned on this thread, but I think they need to be a bit longer as the bulged end ends up in a really odd-looking place. Either that or I am making them too thick, not sure (although post-partum I don't think "too thick" will ever come to mind). I need to get to the craft store and pick up some cotton batting and see how that works. I'm also going to try making the flaps square instead of rouned as I'm using velcro which doesn't work well on a rounded edge when it is square-duh!

Cashmere pp pads

I know this will probably sound really funny, but I am making some cashmere pads for pp. It stems from a couple years ago when my younger sister had her first baby and she was still very out of it afterwards and we had to help her to the bathroom and my mom happened to be wearing some cashmere yoga pants and my sister asked if she could use my mom's pants to wipe with because she was sooo sore and the tp hurt. It somehow stuck in my brain and I have been saving old cashmere sweaters that are too small, too pilly and have holes in them and I am going to cut them up and use them as wipes, pp pads, whatever. I was going to give away or toss the sweaters anyway - so I figured I could put them to good use this way...

Help. I've never used cloth menstrual pads, but I'm definitely open to the idea. Disposable pads made me miserable after DS's birth. How do they work? Do they really stay in place all by themselves? Also, do I want trifolds or the "doubler" type? I probably won't sew my own b/c I've got too many other projects to complete in the next month.

I'm new at them too, but the ones I'm making have wide flaps that attach with velcro underneath instead of sticky tabs. I'm thinking that cloth on cloth helps keep them in place too, but we'll see. The plain terry liners that I tried stayed in place very well even without the tabs.

I am STILL working on my pads..it's been hard finishing them though, as my 1 year old wants to "help" :LOL

I am going to using terry for the inners and fleece/flannel for the other parts btw. the pattern I came up with has square wings and I am making them longer than normal pads (I LOVED the hospital pads that were extra long w/ birth #1) I am also making a few withougt wings too as I will wear the mesh undies at first (LOVE those!)

for some reason I'm leary of using the cotton batting.
