I had to go to Babies R Us to get a shower present and had some unexpected time without DS, so I decided to start a registry. I'm not sure who will buy off of it, but I thought it would be good to have a few things on there in case anyone asked.

So, I only had 45 mins before I had to get DS, and they made me wait for like 15+ mins on the one person who could apparently set up the registry. She finally arrived and then I had to spend 5 mins doing paperwork. Grrr. Like someone couldnt have given me the paperwork while I was waiting?

Bottom line, I ended up with about 10-15 mins of actual time to go around and scan stuff. BUt what was funny was how little I actually scanned. She gave me this booklet with the "100 most common items" to scan right off the page and I did not scan one of them. I skipped by the bottles, pacifiers. I didnt need a pack N play, swing, diaper genie, baby bjorn or most of the gadgets they had there. Oh, to be able to register for my Amby Baby bed, an Ella Roo sling, cloth diapers and good nursing pads!

And because we are not finding out the gender, I just scanned a bunch of yellow gowns and hats. Boring!

And the $300+ Peg Perego Martinelli stroller that I covet!

So is anyone else registering for baby stuff? Has anyone found a good NFL online baby site that has a good selection of stuff and an EASY registry? The few i have found have the most complicated regisltry and I'm fairly computer literate!

NO!! I have not found a good NFL online baby site for registering. I agree with you 100% about the lack of user-friendly site features -- a lot of stuff seems to be backordered quite often, which is no big deal for me personally, but I hope our mainstream family will buy off the registries and I don't want to discourage them with complicated stuff. The last shower I went to with them involved about $1000-2000 worth of stuff bought off the BabiesRUS registry. She was quite young and single so maybe they won't be as generous with us since we are a lot further along with our lives and careers, can afford our own apartment, etc. but if they want to buy I want to make it easy

Our solution is to register only with Vermont Diaper Company and we're having a cloth diaper only party. As I said on the other thread, we have almost everything else we need and the diapers are a huge expense since this is our first. The Vermont Diaper Company site is super straighforward and the cotton and wool are organic, and the prices look reasonable for the quality. The woman who owns it got back to me by email right away and seems like a very organized person. All of their dipes and covers are plain, unbleached, wich I love, but I will also want some colorful and funky ones, especially since I started to get diaper envy when I saw the pics of MamaFern's stash -- but I will just buy those on my own, maybe one cute gender-netural cover a month or so.

One of our churches wants to host a shower for us. Which I'm grateful for, but I won't really "need" anything for this baby. I've got all the tiny stuff I saved from Kenna and most of it is gender neutral.

My mom suggested that if asked, I should say I want wipes and diapers, but I'd really rather cd, and if I get a ton of sposies I'll feel like I have to use them.

These are mostly older southern ladies though, so they will probably not ask and will just get what they want me to have. That's okay though. I think Walmart has a pretty generous return policy. (how ungrateful does that sound??)

Felicite.com has a registry that lets you go to a bunch of online NFL/AP stores and then keep your list at one place. There were some things I wish they had, but overall I was really pleased with the selection (lots of organic choices!). You can go to the "merchant directory" in the top toolbar to check out the offerings before setting one up.

Mind you, I haven't heard anything about them either way, but so far it has been the only place I've been able to register for most of the things I've heard a first-time mom wil need.

Okay, yall are going to think I'm completely nuts, but until this post, I was wondering why so many of you wanted National Football League gear for your little ones, and why it was so hard to come by.

I didn't realize what NFL meant until I saw AP next to it.

And, what is the etiquette for having a second? We cleaned up at the first shower (we were both working at a place full of baby-crazy women), but it was five years ago and we have little left from that baby time. So I don't know whether to do a registry again. It seems that most people I know do not have a shower for the second child.

ditto.
We had 2 showers for first baby none for second baby...which was fine! I appreciated all everyone helped us out with with the first baby.

Yes, I was wondering about the etiquette for 2nd babies, too- I don't know if we will register or not- am not 'expecting' a shower but I have a feeling I'll get at least one. I had 3 last time and everyone was SOOOO generous, I feel like I would not want to ask anyone for gifts ever again! (Not that we asked the 1st time but ykwim!)

We pretty much have everything- all I can think of that I want is a My Brest Friend pillow, a new stroller (but no one I know can afford a $200-300 gift! and I wouldn't ask them to!) and if it turns out to be a girl, girl clothes (but we're not finding out, so I can't register for that!). Lots of diapers and wipes might be good- BUT we use eco-friendly disposables so I doubt if anyone would buy that brand for me! Help with meals after the baby's born would be great. That's about it!

I will totally check out that felicite site- if there were a more NFL type registry that would really help- maybe I'd get some more ideas.

:LOL lol- this is my and dh's family to a tee! They aren't even southern! They totally do NOT beleive in registries or getting someone what they asked for, or giving gift cards or money- gifts are from the heart and you should just appreciate what you get! Unfortunately I have much different taste than my mom so a lot of it I don't like or is duplicates

Last time we had 3 showers. This time I think we are only going to have one for close family and friends. I did register at BabiesRUs the moment that I got pregnant thought. I just couldn't wait. We are not finding out the sex, so everyone is upset. But that is their problem. We still have all the stuff from DD. So if it is a girl we are set. If it is a boy we won't have to buy much. And Hey, Christmas is right around the corner! I might just have a diaper party and have people bring wipes, diapers, and stuff. Who knows.

Buy the way, I must be dumb because I still don't know what NFL is.

Well, I'm on my third baby. I know I'll get at least two showers. But I must clarify, I donated everything last year. We weren't planning on having a third. G*d has a great sense of humor! We have NOTHING for this baby. Donated all clothes up to 2 years and all other stuff. We didn't lose the furniture tho. Thank goodness! I registered when i was about 8 weeks. Wishfull thinking. VEry nutral stuff for the nursery only. No clothes or such. Don't want to buy anthing yet. We don't know what the little one is yet. I really want to find out.

Amy, NFL is "Natural Family Living." I swore I'd never pepper my posts with acronyms, but they just sneak into your vocuabulary!

I registered at Babies R Us too this past weekend, but there isn't a ton of stuff there that I want, and there's a ton of stuff that I DON'T want! I figure that they are good for some clothes, blankets, basic baby care stuff, carseat, stroller, etc. I also registered for some stuff like a nursing stool, etc. All our family is out of town, so I figured that a large national chain would serve those who want to actually go to a brick and mortar store and pick out stuff themselves, or more mainstream people (work colleagues etc.)

I do want to register or have some sort of list somewhere else though, as there are some things that I want or need. Some of them are sort of non-retail items (the postpartum doula we are planning to hire offers gift certificates for her services and that would be great!) I was thinking about wishlist.com--anyone use them?

I think that usually if someone isn't registered people tend to ask that person's mother, MIL, the shower hostess or the mom-to-be's close friends what they think she wants/needs. I think therefore that being as specific as possible with those folks is good, so that they can tell someone, "Janie has all the basic baby stuff, but I know she'd really appreciate _________" and that can include stuff like gift certificates or non-mainstream items.

I ahve been told that I'm not getting a shower this time around, so I'm just keeping a small list of some of the things I want/need. We have plenty of clothes, though most are boy clothes, so if Turkey is a girl, we'll probably need to get some stuff. We use a diaper service so we're not buying diapers. I need nursing pads and bags for milk storage and we will need some new bottles for ebm once I go back to work and we actually want a swing our bouncer but I have a client that will send that to me and we'd like more newborn and early toys because we gave all of Sam's stuff away to charity because there is nowhere to keep that stuff in an apartment in manhattan! And I want some kind o moses basket or something for naps so we can have protected place and keep Sam away at least a little bit, but my mom said she'd buy that for me. So I just write everything down on a pad at work in case anyone asks!

I went to a really beautiful shower this past Saturday for a mom who was having her 6th baby. The note at the end of the invitation went something like this:

"Cammile and her family are in need of frozen meals, gift certificates for groceries, gift certificates for video rentals (to keep other kids busy!), and a baby sling."

It was really nice to be able to have that guidance. The momma got exactly what she needed, and people also brought little presents for HER -- potted lavender, candles for the birth, a beautiful beaded necklace. Once we all knew what a mom of 6 kids would truly use, we were free to add little gifts that spoke more to what she meant to us, and what we hoped and wished for her birth and her baby.
