Hi Ladies ~ We had our son. He was born at 2:53pm on June 15th at home. On the thread from last week I was inquiring about some pretty regular contractions that I was having. I ended up going home around 1:30pm from work after I came back from my lunch walk. They were really intense at that point and I couldn't sit during the contractions. I was really in denial that I was even in labor to be truthfull. So I got home and tried to relax in the bath but got a gnarly contraction and so I was moving around trying to get comfortable - not happening. I actually felt pretty good on my forearms and knees, swaying my hips back and forth during contractions. I called my midwife at 2pm and she came right over in abuot 15 minutes. I was still in denial. So she checked me and said that his head was real low and that I was 9cm!! We called Chris to get him home (he works about 30 minutes away) and then my body started to spontaneously push pretty much right after that. It was amazing.... to have your body doing that. He was born at 2:53pm, crying and breathing... but he was 35 1/2 weeks, and we could tell he was struggling. Chris arrived home about 10 minutes after Joaquin was born and by that time the midwife have just cut the cord and was giving him oxygen. They wrapped him up and took him to the hospital.
Wow... so now we're at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. Turns out Joaquin wasn't peeing and that was very worrisome. He has a problem with the kidneys were the tube running from the kidneys to the bladder is completely blocked on one side and partially blocked on the other. While most people can have this condition and not know about it as long as they have a normal functioning kidney, Joaquin does not... the other one is a pretty abnormal kidney from the partial blockage. He had surgery on Sunday to remove the blockage and they started dialysis on him yesterday. He is looking at the possibility of having a kidney translplant at around one year.
He is such a trooper. He gets stronger and stronger every day. He's beautiful and perfect (except for his little kidneys). He amazes me constantly at how strong he is... he's got an old soul. He's like a little man in a baby body... it's hard to explain. Today we got to the hospital and he was removed from his respirator!! Good news. I got to hold him today finally. He liked it. He loves getting kisses all over his little head and body. While we are looking at a few more weeks here, it might be sooner. It really is a day to day thing here at the NICU. Just have to take the good and bad. Our families are here and we have so many people praying for him. I can feel all the prayers and thoughts surrounding him when I am near him.
Just wanted to give you all an update. Please keep Joaquin in your thoughts and prayers... it's really working! I'll write more later. Take care everyone!
Much Love and Many Blessings.
