Music - mixed tapes / CDs?

I was thinking about making a list of songs to listen to - something for myself and the baby to relax to, etc. Maybe even using the same tape / CD during some parts of labor - familiar sounds to relax to.

and I'm stuck.. anyone doing this? have any ideas? dd's favorite songs are stuck in my head right now, but they're not exactly what I'm looking for. (dancy-type stuff)

TIA!!

My favourite "gentle" songs atm:
Counting Crows- Colourblind
Tori Amos- Smells like Teen Spirit (and yes, I know she didn't write it.)
Van Morrison- Astral Weeks (the little boy with the red shoes? I know him- he's my eldest )
Crash Test Dummies- Mmm mmm mmm mmm.

I'm conscious of the fact that most of these don't have terribly uplifting lyrics, but then I tend to listen to the music more than the words anyhow. Of course, this could be something entirely different to your tastes...

I think this is so important during labor if you are a "music" person. My sis did this during her labor, and after delivery she skipped forward to a song that the baby was always active to while in utero - the baby, not 5 min. old, lifted up her head, and started looking around. She totally responded to it. It was so cool. My experience was not so dramatic. I like sort of ethereal ambient music. Enya has some cool stuff. I don't really like lyrics, because I get distracted by them to easily.

I was going to do something similar when I was pg with dd, but never got around to it. What I am thinking about doing is having some things like Enya's music, but then also having some 'easy listening' songs - with lyrics.. maybe something about children, life / love in general.. anyone know appropriate-worded songs? - something that might apply to a child / family?

one song I was thinking is maybe called "in my daugher's eye's"? I love that song, but not sure if this one is a girl or a boy..

thanks mamas!

I'm a huge music fan and listen to tons of music but for me, I actually think music would make me too emotional in labor. I wanted quiet with Sam and think I'm leaning toward quiet again. I have a CD of the Puerto Rican coqui (a frog) chirping, and that is probably the extent of what I'd be able to handle, though that may drive me crazy, too.
