I'm trying to find someone to teach me how to knit in person. I'm not good at learning things from a book. I hope to become a November knitting mommy!

I wasn't too happy with my soaker attempts -- I think it was the colors more than anything else -- so I ripped them out and started to knit toy dinosaurs instead. I'm maybe 1/3 way done with the stegosaurus, and truthfully I'm enjoying it much more than I did the soakers! I finished a little cashmere/cotton hat, too, a really simple little pale yellow rolled-brim that is soft soft soft. Let me see if I can get a picture...

Yep. Here they are: www.geocities.com/treesock/17knitsew.html

Well, the baby's layette got hijacked by a couple of jealous older brothers, but I now have a matching hat, two pairs of bootees, and I'm starting work on a soaker. Plus a couple of gorgeous hats to fit 4 and 6yos, of course I've also got some kimono nightgowns that I ran up on the sewing machine.

I'm working on a blanket, that will probably never get finished. It just seems like I get nowhere with it. It's a varigated blue/green confetti baby yarn and I'm doing a waffle stitch. It's getting close to a foot long, but that's at the very least only 1/3 of the way.

I put it down and started on a blue/white cardigan sweater. I've got the back and left side done and the right side started. I also knitted one bootie, but need a size one needle to do the cuff on it and can't find one, so it's sitting on needles. And it's one of those if I don't finish it soon I'll never be able to recreate the other one to match.

I knitted some soakers for dd, but never really liked using them. I sold one and the other is still in my stash somewhere. I've also got several made out of acrylic yarn that I did to sort out a usable pattern. I'm not sure what to do with those...I guess I could unravel and reuse the yarn somewhere else.

Anyone know of a good knit hat pattern? I'm looking for something simple for a newborn (to make to match the cardigan).

I would love to learn how too. My grandma does knit, but she does it so fast I cant learn from her. Is there a video or something that can teach you how? Maybe I'll ask over in crafts

I am going to buy some needles today, and try to make the "easy peasy" baby sweater from Little Turtle Knits. I have plenty of yarn from my attempts at crochet (grandma taught me that, but all the patterns I want to do are knit). I have a tiny tiny bit of sewing experience and bought a pattern to make a boppy pillow cover. We'll see . . .

Christa -- I think at the Little Turtle Knits website they have some hat paterns.

I scaled it up to make the hats I knitted for my big boys, and it was very fast and very very easy.

That is very, very cute! I need to get a new ink cartridge for my printer so I can print that out. Thanks.

I have been too lazy and haven't started knitting yet. Freakin' HG, robs you of all motivation. I have my mom hard at work on newborn soakers. I think she's made me 5 or 6 so far. I need to have her switch over to longies though. Ooooh, I really want to knit a cashmere pilot cap. I saw one years ago when I was in Paris and my dd was little, it was 60 euros - no way, I'm paying almost 80 bucks, I could totally knit that myself. I tell myself that all the time, rarely do I ever do it.

Fern, those longies are a-adorable. I can't believe your baby managed to get a leg through and keep all the stitches on your dpns! I can't even sneeze without dropping one or two of the edges! They look just lovely!

:LOL

he is pretty co-opeative for a two year old. i say "stand really still please!" and he says "okay momma.." plus the dpn's i have are pretty long which helps to not lose stitches.

ive cast off one leg and i have a few more inches on the other and then im done!! i wish i had a little baby to try them on!

im such a knit-a-holic right now. i should be doing so many other things but i just want this finnished.. then i have so many other projects i want to start..

Hi all

I'm really enjoying looking at everyone's adorable projects, and getting some great ideas! I'm not the most skilled knitter, but I'm determined to turn out a bunch of stuff for the little one to come.

So far, I've finished a few little things, including a hat/bootie set made from a pattern and soft merino wool from Morehouse Farms. They're located in upstate New York, but they sell their stuff at craft fairs around NYC and at the Greenwich Village farmer's Market, so it's been pretty easy to build up a stash of their yummy, yummy wool. They also have a website where they sell patterns, accessories, etc. The bootie/hat set was for my baby, but I've also made two pairs of booties for my friend's baby boy (due in September). I intend to make hats to go with these, plus another separate hat-bootie set for that little sprout. All of these are/will be made of ultra-soft baby alpaca wool, as I was on an alpaca kick a few months back and bought a bunch of it on ebay.

My current "big" project is The Nutcracker Jacket (wool and pattern from Morehouse Farms). It's knitted on circular needles, and I'm feeling confident so far, as I haven't reached the double-pointed portion of the pattern (sleeves) yet. I've only ever used double-pointed to knit i-cords, and I'm a little freaked out by the prospect of three (or more!) needles going at once. But I intend to persevere and create something very cute for my little one. I'm also shopping around for some pretty variegated-color wool for my mom to use to make a blanket for baby. She doesn't want me to spend a lot, so it's off to ebay for that, too, I guess.

We're getting a digital camera later this week, so I'll try to take some pictures (probably next week after we get back from vacation) of the progress so far.

Thanks again for this wonderful thread!
