What are your thoughts on "Love You Forever" By Robert Munsche(sp?)
We own the book and I love it. Dh on the other hand thinks it is a strange book. He jokes all the time about the mom driving over to the son's house with the ladder on her car!

A better book is "You will be my Baby Even When..."
by Christie Becker

We all love this one!

That book makes me cry every time I read it.

This book makes me cry. I love it! I say that line to my ds every night at his bedtime (yeah, so I stole it!), but it's our bedtime ritual now.

Someone brought this book up in another thread & the next day I went to my friend's house & she had it. I may have been a bit biased by what I read, but I thought it was very creepy. The sneaking into his house as a grown man totally weirded me out! She loves it.

Not a Munsch fan so I don't read his stuff to DS. A better book, for us, is Mama, Do You Love Me? by Barbara Joosse. http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/item.a...n=books&zxac=1

I cry when I read it but also find it pretty creepy. If DD starts to get creeped out by it- then we'll stop reading it...but she seems to like it and we search for the cat in every page (I think there is only 1 without a kitty)

We don't own it. I've read it to my baby but I don't read the last page where the child is caring for the mama. Lovely sentiment, but waaaaaaay too much for a young one, IMO.

My dh's grandmother gave this to ds when he was a baby. I didn't like it at all and gave it away. It starts off okay but by the end I was asking, "what the heck IS this and why did Nana give it us?" It's creepy.

Yep, I think this book says the same things but in a less creepy way. I feel kind of both ways about "Love You Forever". I can see how it is really touching, but as an adult I find it a little unsettling.

wow. so weird. i just read this to ds tonight. we've had it for a long time. gift from grandma but i thought it was creepy. well, tonight i wanted to read anything other than bob the builder books and he agreed to this one, but halfway through, it made me cry and it creeped him out and he closed it. i want to get rid of it but it has an inscription from grandma so i feel sort of guilty. of course, i sort of feel weirded out like grandma is going to sneak into my room and creep across my floor and start singing that stuff to my dh. ugh!

Read it, love it, AND find the end a little weird! :LOL

I can't get through it without crying.

I don't know, but I think Munsch was simply trying to inject a little absurdity and silliness into this very sentimental story.

Having lost both parents, I can't read it without becoming a weepy mess. For that reason alone, I don't read it to my kids.

I wouldn't call it creepy, though.

I've never liked this book. Creepy.

I think it's one of those Love it or Hate it books. There are billions of books/ideas/whatever out there that appeal to some folks and not to others. Is that some sort of revelation? :LOL

My mother, fi, loves this book. Gave it to me nearly a decade ago with a really long inscription about how much she loves me and how she will always be there for me. While I do not care for the illustration style, the rythmic telling is nice. I think people take this book waaaaaaaaaay to literally. It's symbolic. Remember literary symbolism ,anyone? 9th grade English?

I think if the art were nicer, people wouldn't freak over this book so much. Maybe they will re-release it someday with pastel illustrations of bunnies.

So, ok, while I don't like the illustration style, I love my mother's love letter to me. If the book inspired her to tell me how much she adores me, well, that's nice.

Ick, ick. I hate this book. The mother has all kinds of issues, beginning with having no boundaries at all. Who sneaks into a grown child's house in the night? Also, she seems to only like her child when he's unconscious. All the daytime stuff talks about what an annoyance he is, but suddenly when he falls asleep, she secretly dotes on him. Eww. And I agree that the idea of a sick and aging parent is way too much for a little one to handle. No good.

We like I Love You As Much instead, which also concludes with a beautiful cosleeping illustration.

Love you forever- personally find it creepy.

Mama, do you love me? Great book. DS#2 loves to make a game out of that book, "Mum, I love you as much as the moon loves his beard."

We also like the one with the rabbits.

I agree you either love it or hate it and I like it alot. I buy every mama love sort of thing I can get my hands on. I do find the sneaking into the house a bit creepy but the sentiment behind it makes it ok for me, and yes I do cry every time I read it.
