Going to do the Cerclage

I can't believe it, but the doctor talked me into it. He addressed every issue that I had and assured me that he felt that I am a prime candidate. He said that the studies I read were done on a randomized group of women and that not all were good candidates for the procedure. Now, I am not one for blindly trusting doctors. We thouroughly covered all of my concerns and I felt intuitively that this is the right thing that I can do for my babies, the one here and the one to come.

He said he feels very confidant that I will go to term with the cerclage. That means no bedrest, no hospital, no pumping, no NICU, no being separated from my babies. I can do yoga and go swimming. I can walk around big and beautiful and not be confined to bed in my jammies. I am scared to be excited but this is going to give me a chance to be happy about this pregnancy. Somebody say it's okay.. I know the risks, I need some support. TIA.

Coming from someone who already knew she was getting one, I am happy you made a decision. I know it was tough. Do you know exactly when you will be getting yours? I will find out next friday what day I go in for mine.

I don't know what a Cerclage is, but you DO, and you've done the research, and it sounds like you are making the best decision for your family. I am so glad your doctor was able to address your concerns. You have my hugs and support!

As long as YOU have done your research and YOU are happy with your decision, you did the right thing.

Your doctor sounds wonderfully patient and kind. What a relief to have that one big decision done!! Congratulations and good job with your research!

I would do the same thing in your shoes. Glad you have a doctor who's willing to take the time to listen and discuss your concerns. It must feel good to have the decision made rather than hanging over you.

Warmly,
Carol

Sounds like you have a good doc I agree.

I'm glad the dr was able to fully adress your concerns.

A very good friend of mine has four children. The first was non cerclage, delivered at 31 weeks. Lots of trouble to start off. Number two ended up on bed rest from early , in and out of hospital managed to carry to term but the stress was just unreal. Numbers three and four, cerclage early on (one pg they had to do the cerclage twice because the first one didn't take) and pgs were uneventful and babys were healthy and two term.

It can help.
I'm glad that your dr has been able to help you come to a decision.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. It has been a very hard decision to make, but it feels like the right one. The doctor wants me to do it between 12-14 weeks. Probably just as soon as I start feeling better.

One bad thing I found out is... NO SEX! for about 20+ weeks! Oh well, the things you do for your children.

I would imagine that sex is off-limits in most cases of threatened pre-term labor, with or without cerclage. Sorry about that.

Yes, the things we do for our children. Having kids has made me appreciate my own mother infinitely more. She may not be perfect, but by golly she loves me more than anything!

what a tough decision to make!! it will be so nice not to have to be separated from your new baby this time. you did what most women don't do - you studied all of your options and made an informed decision without just blindly trusting your doctor - good for you!

Good job with all your research. I have to second mama2gracie on that most woman don't do that. I hope this works out for you. Are you expecting 2? I am just not sure if I misread on of your posts.

Best Wishes to you and many prayers too.
