dizziness

I called my midwives yesterday b/c I started getting dizzy while my mom and I were out shopping. I wasn't sure what was causing me to feel so dizzy, but it was really hot (above 90) and I figured heat and pregnant don't really go together well.

She said it could be from blood volume changes, anemia, or an inner ear problem due to cold or allergies. I kinda had a feeling it might be low iron (b/c I haven't been taking my prenatals for a couple of weeks ) so we decided we'd just test Thursday and see how my numbers are and I think she mentioned testing the iron stores too (I'm guessing that takes a draw instead of just a finger stick).

But, I remained dizzy all yesterday evening, went to bed early and woke up this morning still extremely dizzy and feeling a little sea sick, so now I'm thinking it's inner ear (even though I haven't really had allergies other than a sneeze or two and no cold at all). I had labrynthitis once before and if I remember right this is what it felt like. I'll call the midwives again in the a.m. and see what I should do. I don't have a regular doc and am not looking forward to the prospect of finding one. It's so hard to find someone who isn't needle happy.

Last time I had this they treated it with oral steriods (prolly b/c I refused the injection). I don't particularly want to take steriods while I'm pg unless it's necessary, though I don't actually know what risk it poses to the baby. Normally I'd scour the internet for more info, but I think I'm going to go lay down instead.

Oh, btw, we went shopping at a great outlet mall with a huge Carter's store and got several really good buys for the baby. I even bought this blue little boy sweater outfit even though I don't know what this kiddo is yet. If I'm carrying a girl, I'll just give the outfit to my cousin and his wife who are expecting a boy.

It's not just you. I came over all dizzy when I was shopping today as well- and when I was working yesterday. For me, though, it got a lot better once I was sat down and resting...

I have bad dizziness in the AM. Like I come up from the subway and I swear I won't make it to my office door. Much better at night. Doesn't matter if I eat before I leave the house or not. I had the same thing with Sam, so I just try to take it easy. We believe in my case it has to do with increased blood volume and that it just takes my body a little time to wake up in the AM because it isn't as bad on weekends when I go out and about with Sam - we usually bum around the house for a while before we head out.

I've been very dizzy, too. I actually walked into a door frame last night, because I got a head swim at that moment! Didn't hurt myself, thank goodness. I am very sensitive to changes in my blood sugar with this pregnancy, so I have to be careful to try to eat something frequently and not to have sugar (HA! Like I can manage THAT!).

Something tells me this isn't just normal pregnancy related dizziness. I stayed in bed most of the day yesterday. Reading makes it worse (I guess b/c of the position of my head) and there were times I thought I would fall off the toilet!

But I'm telling myself I feel better b/c my house is falling in around my ringing ears and b/c I don't think I'm a danger to myself if I resume my semi-normal activities. Dh is almost no help. He was gone all day yesterday (and me with an active toddler) He did fix us lunch and brought dinner. But he was supposed to get the trash out for p/u (they won't p/u next week b/c of the holiday) and clean up the kitchen (it's horrible) and didn't do either. I got the trash out, put the dog out, feed and changed dd, and folded a load of clothes and his lazy a** is still in bed! I think I'm boycotting the kitchen.

If I felt much much better I'd drive to my mom's! She'd take care of me (and Kenna)

Aw, I'm sorry. Yeah, that doesn't seem normal whatsoever to have it all day, although I've also had spells. Let us know what is diagnosed in case anyone here has symptoms like that again.

I know it's one thing to say and another to actually DO, but if you're that ill don't worry about the kitchen! Take care of yourself. Maybe go to the hospital/urgent care if you can't get in sooner. When I was anemic last year, my heart beat very fast, I felt like I couldn't catch my breath, and I was constantly dizzy. I thought I was having a heart attack. A quick blood test could tell you a lot, or a peek in your ears if you're having an ear-based problem.

I did end up feeling better today. Still some dizzy, but nothing like yesterday when I didn't feel like I could walk to the mailbox.

I even decided not to call the midwives (I'll see them Thursday anyway) and just wait and see it I keep getting better.

My theory is that I was exposed to some nasty allergen in the town we went shopping in (it's almost an hour from where I live and near the Mississippi river) and it aggravated some inner ear thing for me.

I will still followup with the midwives and get my iron tested and such. Thanks for the sympathy and for putting up with my crankiness.
