This will probably get moved, but I like you guys so we'll start here
Did you/will you take your baby to the doctor???
My son's ped does home visits and likes to see the baby by 48 hours after the birth. I'm obviously past that... I just never called her. I saw absolutley no need for it but either I'm naive or there just isn't a reason.
I guess now she "needs" a visit, just wondering when everyone else took their babies to the doc. I would like to touch base with them as far as setting up a vaccination schedule. I'm on the fence about it but definitely want to delay things. I also want to get her weighed... Probably will pass on the pku, etc if it's not a runaround kind of situation.
I also need to call the health dept for the birth cert!!! And the insurance company!! I just haven't felt like anything was necessary at this point, which it's not, but she'll be a week old in a couple of days so it's time to at least start thinking about this stuff.
And to top it off I'm a major procrastinator anyway.
DH is getting restless because he wants to go somewhere, but the mw is coming for my postpartum visit today. Just don't know exactly when. He got to go to Philly yesterday because my dad wanted to drive 2 hours to get a cheese steak lmao! They took my son too so it was nice except for dealing with a huge right boob. Had it not been for the fact that I was in engorgement pain yesterday it would have been really lovely since all we did was lay on the sofa and nurse/sleep/nurse/sleep. That's the greatest thing about a newborn if you have the luxury. I think our luxury of doing that may only come once a week and then how long are they newborns!??!?
Anyway I digress
Take care ladies,
Karen

My Ped came to the house the same day. She arrived about 5 hours after the baby was born, but didn't do much else than what the midwfe had already done in her exam. Because we were dealing with a possible hyperthyroid baby, we felt it was important to get him seen asap. We went into the office at 5 days because Ely was ppretty jaundiced, and went back at 2 weeks for a routine exam and weigh in. The pku test was done on day 2, and the midwife also saw us on day 7 to weigh the baby and examine me. Our next Ped appointment is at 2 months, and I know that normally vaxes are given then (we're doing a delayed schedule because I'm concerned about autoimmune disease).

We wanted to do the PKU test, because we wanted the thyroid results and DH has a family member with PKU which is a genetic thing.

Does your MW not take care of the birth certificate? I had to fill out a form for her, but she submitted everything.

This is goign to be my first homebirth, but my MW had a form for me to fill out to take care of the Birth cirtificate. And she also refered me to her back-up doctor who is a family practicioner who will see the whole family now. I have an apt with her this Weds. To met with her, and have her do a routine post date ck. I beleive that we just set up an apt within a week or 2 after the birth for a well baby visit? I will be sure to ask at my Weds apt to be sure what to do beacuse liek you I am a major procrastinator, not by choice but beacuse of having so much to juggle.

I took her in at 5 days to have her seen b/c I had to have proof that she was born to get a birth cert. Then 2 weeks after we went again. The stupid lab screwed up TWICE on the PKU so she's had that f*$&in' test 3 times. If they call again and say they're dumbasses, that's just too bad. I mean, come on!!!

I was supposed to make her 2 mo appt at the last one, but I forgot. I plan on at least delaying vaxes and denying most of them, so I see no reason to take her to a crowded germ filled waiting room for an hour wait just to be weighed, KWIM???
