what are you going to eat/drink in labor?

just wondering

I have some emergen-C but it's not very appealing..I was thinking fruit pops (frozen) & watermelon, but not sure what else?

I'm planning to get some Recharge. I learned from my first labor not to eat or drink anything that I didn't want to see again on its way back up. : Since I'll be at home this time, that means all natural colored food. No red grape juice!

:LOL I hear you,
I made the mistake of eating a PB&J sandwich when labor started last time....ewww..not fun on the way back up.

I had a cooler full of food (small cooler :LOL ) packed last time and didn't touch a thing. My L&D progressed so quickly that all I really wanted was some ice chips and apple juice, which the birthing center had. And those I only had because I was sitting in the shower, waiting for the birthing pool to fill up (right before it was ready I was ready to push and never ended up even putting a toe in it!)

This time around I was thinking of some gatorade, and lollipops, but that's about it. I guess I'm mentally preparing for another short labor ?

I don't know. Maybe b/c I had a pretty short labor last time, but I was not at all hungry. I was perfectly ok with the ice chips.

I am taking power and luna bars. I'll have forzen quiche in my parent's freezer for them to bring by the birth center for afterwards...

During, I have some apple juice. I could get some popsicles and wonder if we'll even remember them when the time comes.

I ate a sandwich and cheese cubes before hard labor started. During labor I didn't want to eat a thing. I only sipped on water and juice.

*If you don't have straws I recommend getting some. It is so much easier than trying to drink out of a glass the regular way.

I have already mentioned the episode with me eating cheeries during last labor and having them come back up. Everyone was worried and racing around like I was throwing up blood. It was silly.
I also drank juice, gingerale, etc. last time. I may have munched on some crackers.
I'll probably do the same.
Now.... what is everyone going to eat after labor? I am going to have a nice dark pint of beer and maybe sushi?!!??

I think whatever sounds good to me at the time.

I didn't feel like eating anything after real labor started. I tried, but couldn't even eat soup. I will probably try to eat quite a bit in early labor, if i get a chance. Last time I had early labor for about 12 hours...just minor contractions that didn't hurt. So I will try to eat pasta, eggs and stuff to stick with me and give me energy.

I am planning to have some grapes, fresh fruit, melon stuff like that for labor incase I feel like eating. I puked last time too, but thought it was because of the pain meds. Now I hear all your natural birthing moms saying you puked too. Hmmm....

Diddo! (I didn't have time to get in the tub either, dang it!)

It is hard to get in the place of being mentally prepared for a long labor when the first one was short. I'm trying, because you know everything could be different this time.
Last time, I was walking around and craving watermelon really badly. The nurse at the hospital rounded up some for me, which didn't take too long, but I hit transition and wanted to throw up. I saved it for an after delivery celebration snack! I'll probably do the same thing at home...just have some fresh fruit on hand at all times and maybe some juice or other light, cooling drinks. Light, watery food will help with elimination afterwards also, if you know what I mean! Water, water, water!

Gosh, I don't know! I think melons may sound good, and maybe salads? Natural protein shakes, very ice cold, with fresh or fresh-frozen fruit usually are good with me when I'm not feeling so hot, so maybe I'll have DH keep the Vita-Mix ready.

Mama C - I'm with ya on the postpartum beer!

A lot of ppl throw up as part of transition, but I guess I'm lucky in that it's not one of my labor symptoms. Those of you who do can try to view it as actually being a good thing as it really progresses you through labor (according to what I've read).

I made the mistake with Jacob of going right into the hospital (water broke to start me off). I don't remember getting anything to eat at all for the whole 15 hour labor except maybe some apple juice.

With Jaden, I didn't go to the hospital until right at the end of my 13 hour labor. I managed to eat a delicious fresh fruit salad with yogurt and a rice cake with peanut butter before I went in to deliver. I was a happy camper!

With Justin, I had been craving Chinese food for weeks. We finally ordered some the day after my best friend flew in for the birth, and I went into labor and couldn't eat it. The labor was really quick (4 hours), and I wasn't hungry, so I didn't eat anything.

This time I guess I will eat/drink whatever I want at the time. We are stocking up on Gatorade as the Emergenc-C doesn't appeal to me (either )

I never got hungry during my 22 hours of labor, but I did drink Gatorade the entire time. I think I went thru 3 or 4 bottles of it.

:

22 hours for me too, and only sports drink during that time! I wanted nothing to do with food. We ordered a pizza afterward though, and it was the best pizza I've ever had.

Not sure what I will want to eat after this birth...a Guinness sounds really good though.

I threw up for about 10 hours of my 22 hour labor (12 hours of that was early labor 0-4cm). So once I hit active labor I threw up with about every other contraction. I couldn't have ate if I tried. It also seems like everything I ate during very early labor just kind of sat in my stomach and it all came up once I hit active labor. I'm hoping this time I can eat a little bit because I got so weak and tired as my labor progressed and I was FAMISHED once I delivered. But I think I'll be lucky to hold down gatorade and crackers if this labor is anything like my last.
