We were at AGH with the midwives, too. They were great during and immediately after the birth, but then we were in the hospital another day and a half and that's when the hospital "routines" were such a pain in the ass. Unfortunately the midwives don't stay by your side during the whole stay!

I was thinking about all these ideas with writing on the t-shirt and diaper, and I wonder if nocirc has stickers you could use? If you had a whole roll of big stickers you could just slap them on every time you changed the shirt or diaper, it would save time and also not permanently mark up a t-shirt since you only need to protect the kid for the day or so you are at the hospital and might not want ALL his t-shirts to say "don't circ."

I LOVE the idea of actually writing on the child's abdomen! Maybe on his thighs, too. Then surely there could be no reason why anyone would "mistakenly" think he was supposed to be circ'ed!
: Here I am adding "sharpie markers" to my list of things to pack for the birth! (Just in case, heaven forbid, we end up transferring to the hospital for some reason.)

Daisyuk: yes, it IS that bad at some American hospitals. I agree with Frank who said that the problem is with hospitals with high circ. rates. Your child can be put on the circ. assembly line and he's done without anyone caring to read his chart. Now that the circ. rate is going down in the US, it doesn't happen as often as it used to, but here in the circ. happy Midwest, you still have to be careful. We are so backwards here!
To the OP: do you know what percentage of babies are circ'ed at the hospital where you are giving birth? If you know, you can tailor your approach. I'd still be careful if I were you, though.
Good luck!
