I don't know, I just get the feeling that pets are being shunned ya know--we can have a forum all of it's own for yarn crafts, but pets just don't rate. The last time I posted regarding this was over a year ago and yes I was rather shocked at the response I got. People have been requesting a pet forum for years, but we have a diapering activism forum as soon as 10 threads relating to it show up--I know it's important, and I understand it, but pets are important too. The thought that these mamas are not talking about the death of their pets because they just don't think there is an acceptable spot here to do so, really saddens me--perhaps we should all just take over "yarn crafts" it would be the first time that forum saw much posting in years!

Well my aunt knitted a sweater out of her dog! So maybe that will help!

We have pets and they have a big impact on our family.
I think a forum would be utilized greatly.

So let me get this straight:

There are seperate fora for meal planning, organization, each kind of vaccination, "diapering activism", a seperate due date forum for every month and a forum for each of the fairy lists, but adding a forum about natural animal care would be diluting mdc's purpose by creating an unneccessary forum?

I think a pet forum would be a good idea, I have a few toddler and dog issues but feel silly posting them in TAO

Very well put Kristen. Having a separate forum for meal planning under Nutrition makes perfect sense--a forum that likely 30% of our MDC population would use and or read would be diluting our purpose here--after all, meal planning and yarn crafts have much more to do with NFL than a dog or cat who lives in that Natural family.

Ok, I have PM'd Cynthia asking her to please revisit this thread and requesting if nothing else a better excuse for refusing the request of many than just not diluting the forums.
IMO, all we need is a sub forum under Mindfull Home Management. A forum under Natural Family Living where we could place some sub forums for dealing with vaccine issues, training issues and grief and loss issues would be wonderful, but then my dreams have always been big

ANother one chiming in asking for it!
I have noticed so many pet threads. When I asked about our weenies, I didnt want to put it in TAO< bc there is so much traffic and it doesnt sem to fit, but I couldnt see any other good place to put it.
Plus, I see chicken threads in the gardening forum, not the best place, but where do they go? They can go to living off the grid, but there are city dwellers(ahem, g-i-d) who keep chicks. So, if it was a pets and farm animals, that would make sense, and they are a big part of natural living.
Also, we are very lucky on the board to have animal professionals who are willing to chime in and help with pet issues. I think that we need thank them and make it easier for them to find the threads

I would love a pet forum.
My thoughts are this: there are many people who keep animals, but my hunch is that those who are AP friendly parents are also the ones who would have helped pass a recent law in Virginia Beach--it is now illegal to chain a dog to anything in your yard. THANK GOODNESS!
Now, for most people, this wouldn't matter--but it would make sense that those who parent a certain way would also care for animals in the same manner.
I am not sure that this is true, it's just my hunch.
But I have animals, and very few friends in our new home, and would love to talk about the animals, the children and how they relate to the animals and ask questions to like-minded people.

One would think, based on the amount of threads devoted to asking for a pet forum (see post #52) that we would have one.

Perhaps the administration will see this thread and finally give us one.......
