digestive problems

Is anyone else having issues?

It all kind of started when I realized that I coulnd't eat much at night - at least, not protein (rice or pasta and veggies treat me ok). But protein at night has just been grossing me out. No biggie because I just eat more during the day. So this week it started out with a mild upset stomach on Monday and I just get like horrible gas pains/heartburn by 11AM no matter what I eat or drink. Then I get hungry but can only eat small meals. In the grand scheme of things, it is probably making me eat better than I was before, but it just isn't fun! I just always have this sore ache in my belly. I had awful heartburn with Sam and got bad gas too, but this is kind of different because nothing seems to work. I'm doing my papaya enzyme, maybe I need to get some ginger too?

Is there anything new or different in your diet? I had a lot of gas for a few days after I started eating tons of fresh summer fruit that I had been craving (cherries, peaches, etc.). When I backed off a bit, it settled down pretty quickly. Mint tea helped to settle my gut ache until it resolved. Good luck!

I had a tummyache the other night that kept me up most of the night. I ended up taking baby mylicon to try to get rid of the gas and then hopped in a hot bath at 3 a.m.! I'm still not sure what happened. I've been really gassy since conception but it's never hurt like that. I'm blaming the two servings of mashed potatoes and gravy from the fried chicken place (not to mention 2 chicken legs and a thigh) :

I don't have the best digestive system in the first place (IBS) and pregnancy just really doesn't help at all. I was taking flax seed oil to help with constipation, but I've read a few things that have made me wonder if it's a good idea to supplement with it while pregnant.

BTW, eating almonds can tame mild heartburn/indigestion, though I think it works better as a preventative than a cure. I've also stopped drinking while I'm eating and save all my beverages for after and between meals to help with heartburn.

You are definitely not alone.

I had horrible IBS problems during my first trimester -- lots of pain. That's past, thank goodness, but now we're moving on to heartburn. The heartburn was horrible when I was pg with DD, and the only thing I ever found to help it was a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. : Yeah, that's the ticket...

I have IBS. I take 2 calcium-magnesium supplements a day, in addition to my prenatals. It has not been as bad in this pregnancy as the last, I think because of taking them. Good luck.

My digestion is totally off...it's just wacky. Without going into detail, I'll just leave it at that. I really never know what to expect one day to the next.

My main problems have been heartburn (already!!) I still have the Tums on my nightstand from last pregnancy! Nothing really makes a difference- whether the food is spicy or not.

Also, I haven't been too 'regular'- I eat tons of fiber and drink tons of water, eat flaxseed almost daily, get a lot of activity, so I think it's just something I have to deal with!
