I suspect all the close shots of the ring are to establish it firmly in the audiences mind as an Entity... I mean it's practically a character, you know? But if you haven't read the books you need something to convey that. It's the really subtle things like that, that are so hard to translate tp film.

I, for one, am looking forward to the Riders of The Mark. Hunks on horses! WoooHhoooo!

I agree that all the ring close ups were a bit OTT but I thought that the "can just hear it and no more" bass pulsing when the ring is trying to influence Frodo was a clever device. Especially when you have a sub-woofer and you can feel it rather than hear it.

It is interesting what you have all said about Elrond as I said to my dh that I liked the way that they portrayed Elrond as powerful and "don't mess" as that was they way I saw him in the book. I always saw him as an ally but that there was a clear line you shouldn't dare to cross.

Although I have to admit that I skipped a lot of the poetry in Fellowship whilst I was reading it (I like to get on with the story - barbarian I know). Maybe there was more of the councellor there which I missed.

My top ten list of shaggable Fellowship men are:

1)Aragorn in leather
2)Aragorn in velvet
3)Aragorn in clothes
4)Aragorn without clothes
5)Aragorn with his sword
6)Aragorn without his sword
7)Aragorn in the forest
8)Aragorn in the mountains
9)Aragorn in Minas Tirith
10)Aragorn and Legolas (for variety, wouldn't want things to get boring)

However I wouldn't want a long term relationship with Aragorn, too much sexy brooding gets waring after a while, ultimately you want someone you can have a good laugh with.

Can't wait for Twin Towers, dh is trying to book the tickets right now (but the cinema website is busy ) and we have never booked tickets this far in advance before.

That was too funny, if there was a pee-in-your-pants-cause-your-laughing-so-hard smilie I would have used that one!

I am afraid I can find no flaws in Peter Jacksons vision of LOTR. Sure some parts may seem a bit off, but some people have never read the book so they had to try to fill them in on a whole lot of info in a very short time. They also left out a whole bunch of stuff from the book but there are people complaining about how long it is now so they definitely wouldn't want to sit through a 4 or 5 hour movie. I reread the first book before going to see the movie last year and was very impressed with just how much he included as well as how close he was able to stick to the book. Most of the time books made into movies are not like this. Of course I am a very agreeable person and very easy to please

I am very sad that when The Two Towers comes out I will be in a city where I don't know anyone to watch ds and probably wont get to see the movie until mid January. Unless I go without dh...

In Seattle, you can get tickets for the primere... starting at $250 each I wish we could go!

I have been laughing at your 'shag ratings' for the fellowship and LMAO! I do have to agree that Aragorn is yummy (great list, PinkSunfish!)... but I dig longhairs that's all I ever really dated. Mike has luxuriously long hair that women openly envy... yeah, baby.

about the movie...

they left out practically the whole first half of the book! I would tell you where I've discussed this with others but then I'd look like an even BIGGER dork for hanging out here than I do with my ST moniker *L*...anyway....I feel several important elements were left out of the movie. For instance, the very fact that the FIRST thing that happens to them is that they nearly get eaten by a TREE!!! This shows how naive they are, how VERY unprepared they are, how dangerous that world is...it also gives a shadow of a hint that some "trees" are less "tree-like" than others...setting up the whole ent thing. Second, I think Tom Bombadil is big for several reasons-the ring has no power over him, he gets them out of the barrow wight (important because that's where the sword comes from that kills the witch-king later), etc. *I* think they should have made the first book into two movies, the first ending when they get to Rivendale. It would give them more time to set up the characters and the feel of Middle Earth, good and bad. The movie is way too fast-paced and has mostly the bad stuff. The second two books are much shorter and contain a lot of battle stuff...those types of scenes can happen much faster on the screen than they can in text. So, that's been my opinion all along...just my two cents!

Cheers, I just like manly men. Although I do admit that there is something about Legolas's eyes that make me go mmmmmmmm.

I also liked Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X men but not in anything else so far. I like em mucky and hairy .

The tickets for Two Towers are now booked - hooray!

Totally off topic - my dh has just found a new channel on digital satellite which is showing tractor-pulling.

Someone just ran a tractor which had four jet engines .

I am constantly surpised by people - I know I shouldn't be.

T

Hugh Jackman in X-Men... I could'nt get past the hair (what kind of mullet hybrid...), he looked like he was on his way to one of those tractor pulls... look closely at the screen, and you'll see similar do's... Handsome fella, really bad hair (I know, that's how it looks in the comics... ) but if Wolverine wants to land Jean, he needs to get a real haircut.

Jenmom, Mike agrees with you about how the 1st book would have been done more justice as 2 movies...

As for that enabling viewers to get a better 'feel' of Middle Earth, it seems like many of the ladies here are more concerned about getting a 'feel' of the men of Middle Earth...

naughty mamas!

Well, I completely agree with PinkSunfish's list and I am SOOOO
very glad that she "wouldn't want a long term relationship with Aragorn"... That means HE IS MINE after that :LOL

I completely refuse to find any type of fault with LOTR, I don't want to make it a cerebral experience...cause I am way too much in love with it :LOL

We bought both versions
Only a month till Two Towers !

aaaaaaaahhhhhh !!
Umm... I'll take the Hobbits... I think I could handle em all! And variety is the spice of life, I could mix them up a little depending on my mood!

And I saw the extended version on VHS today in the video store so it is definitely not just on dvd.
I agree Jenmom, that they should have included the hobbits' adventures in the Old Forest. And the barrow downs were left out too--one of the scariest scenes in the whole book.

about drooling over manly men..

T at this point, I haven't seen DH for 2 1/2 months, I'm getting hard up!! I had a dream that I was making out with Madonna of all people : even if I *were* going to choose a woman (and I would really prefer a man) it would not be her! So, apparently, I need to go out of my way to look at manly men...yeah...that's it!!

I agree. They could make Fellowship a ten hour movie and I would have been just peachy. I think I would get kind of sick of the songs though..I skip them sometimes...

IMO the scariest part is in Moria. I have NEVER recovered from the time I was reading the book intently and the drumming had started and things were looking really bad..and Jenmom comes running in to yell at me for something.. I SCREAMED and threw the book and she laughed for a good ten minutes.

Barrow Wights are super scary but the balrog still give me the willies
