So my dog just got out....

I thought I closed the door, but I guess it didn't click shut. So I look up and here's Maddie-dog, waltzing away. I call her, she turns and laughs and keeps walking and sniffing. I look over and there's an older lady standing with her dog on the leash about 100 yards away. Of course, Maddie-dog, starts trotting over that way. I'm calling her, real sweet-like, so maybe she won't figure out I'm going to kill her when I catch her. Ds comes running out after us, calling her and carrying her leash.

Older woman, still watching the slow pregnant woman and small child chasing the dog. It's been a good 5 minutes that I've been chasing, stopping, calling....it's obvious that my dog has run away. I chase her around a tree, where she stops to pee and I almost catch her by the tail. No luck. Then I think I've got her cornered, but no, she sneaks around the dumpster and heads over to the old lady and her dog.

So of course, my stupid dog has to go over and greet older woman and her dog. At which point I yell, "Maddie NO, SIT". The dogs start smelling each other, and the woman starts SCREAMING at me. "Why isn't that dog on a leash???" She keeps screaming, I'm not even sure what she was saying. Because I'm out of breath from running and TRYING TO CATCH MY DAMN DOG. I yell back that she snuck out and obviously I'm trying to catch her.

Ok, clearly it is my fault that my dog is out without a leash. Under no circumstances should she be. I get angry when I see dogs running loose, it's dangerous to everyone. **Totally my fault** But crap, she stood there and watched the obviously loose dog, from a long distance, heard me yelling at her to stop, saw me trying to grab her and instead of picking up her little dog and going inside she stood there watching. And then decided to yell at me about it. If you were so worried, why didn't you go in your house 10 feet away or pick up your dog?? It wasn't like my dog bolted over there, she trotted her way across a big space, with me yelling behind her.

So I called my dh and yelled at him for never training the dog in the first place after he said, "I'll do all the dog stuff, I promise". And for not setting up the crate like I've asked him to do 100 times.

This was really the last thing I needed today

Glad you caught her.

Oh boy. I can totally relate. One of my dogs escaped about 2 weeks before my dd was born. I chased her for 40 minutes over all kinds of difficult terrain, including across a busy street where she darted in front of some cars. She finally chased a deer into the woods and I lost her. The only thing I could do was go home. About a minute after I got home, guess who's at the door? Yep. I guess it's too scary to go out exploring when Mommy isn't in sight!:LOL A few weeks ago she escaped again. Dd accidentally let her out. Well, she rolled in a dead deer. That was fun cleaning up! I'm glad you got your doggie back safe and sound. I don't hold anything against anyone whose dog escapes from time to time.

Yeah, been there...

Dogs must be counted as additional children when we tally up our daily work score

I had this happen to me about 2 weeks ago with our Houdini Dog 2 days before he was to go to a new home.

I chased him, barefoot, a block and a half on 100+ degree sidewalk before I lost sight of him. He came home a bit later, broken lead dragging behind him, along with a very angry (and foulmouthed) mailman cursing loudly about my d*** dog and when was I gonna keep him put up. :

I hope you're feeling better. Don't let it get you down! Sour people happen to everybody, unfortunately!

I've been there. My doggie is so sweet and good natured, and she's always really well behaved until she gets out -- then all bets are off. Once she escapes out the front door, she pretends that she can't hear us calling after her. Even if we do manage to catch her, she just lays down on the ground and refuses to move, and she's about 70 lbs, which is way too heavy for me to carry in the house.

I'm glad you got your doggie back in the house!
