Happy Birthday Lisa!!! And may you sleep exceptionally well tonight. I'm really glad you had a mellow and fun birthday, even w/out super fantastic ice cream. I think it's great that you had a beach party with babies

lORI - IT COULD WELL BE HEAT RASH. Oops - sorry. I'd keep it open to the air, and use some calendula cream on it, not loads, just a bit. Magic stuff, that. As pure as you can get it - Weleda is great. I'm thinking it could also be sposie rash? Does he wear them often enough that you're sure that's not the culprit? Poor little fella. Hugs Ethan!

Hey - we hit a milestone today! Woohoo!! Ori crossed the meridian! Passed from right hand to left. He was just as surprised as we were, although he obviously intended to do it. Cool!!!

Off to watch Sideways Thanks for the link to that discussion Annie - I added my .02, though never know what that's about...I'll probly get flamed (shiver smilie). xoxo andy

Andy - I don't think you'll get flamed. In fact, I think you were so well versed on the subject, nobody else could say a word. Hence the silence. You are soooooooo awesome! I teared up when I read what you wrote What is your PhD. in, might I ask?

Lisa - happy birthday!!! : Glad you had a great day. You sure do deserve it.

Michelle - ya. I need to get another kitty collar. she keeps taking them off. she is microchipped though. no need to send one. humane society gives free ones.

Soooo..does anybody have the Vegetarian Mother's Cookbook? I was checking out the linky and it looks cool - egg and wheat free recipes as well.

Ugh, we're taking the neighborhood boys to go see some comet get exploded tonight and I so don't want to go. Alas, I was "volunteered" : and now I can't get out of it.

Hava great evening mamas!

The big 4th of July parade was today : it goes right by the front of our house. We went out around noon to look for a booster seat and stayed out until 7 thinking everything would be over. Well the thing didn't start until 7. So we drove around, went to the beach for 1/2 hour (Elizabeth's first time) it was after 8 by the time we got back into our neighborhood and the parade was still in full swing. We were a couple of blocks away and I had to go to the bathroom so I just got out with Miss E and Mr C wanted to come too, poor dh was abandonded to still in traffic and then drive all over looking for a space. He ended up having to park down by our old apartment, its got to be a 15-20 minute walk

Boosterseat shopping quickly turned into highchair shopping. Man, has the quality of the booster seats gone way down since dh was a baby. They were all wobbly and the trays stuck, and were hard to line up The highchairs weren't too much better. After several hours, 4 or 5 stores, a flea market and way too much try sliding of trays we found a highchair that we like, (Yes one solitary chair, not even a couple to pick which we liked better) only to find the store had none I found it online though and ordered a bblp

Yeah we've decided that Miss E is ready for solids. Meals have become a nightmaere around here She just screams and screams trying to grab everyones food. She's so angry that we won't share that she's rigid and shaking. The raw veggies/apple slices/and dried fruit are no longer cutting it. I wanted to wait until she was 6months but I'm caving I can't take it anymore. She is showing all the signs of readiness though, so thats a plus.

The fireworks just started going off (ds and dh walked down) and poor Louie is scared

Lori, cornstarch helps to prevent heat rash. Also you could try going diaperless as much as possible. Air is good, have you ever thought of cloth? :

Annie we have this collar for our cats. We it its never come off and one cat has been wearing it for 3 years and it must be comfy becuase dh's cat would never wear a collare before and she's never had a problem with this one. My kitty loves his if you take it off he looks sad and when you put it on he shakes and prances all over :LOL

DH won't eat anything thats left out unless its bread stuff. I'd eat the rice When we eat pizza, I leave the leftovers out and I've been know to eat them a couple of days later : :

For the 4th I don't know what we're doing yet. DH keeps going back and forth as to weather or not he wants to go over his parents : I wish he'd just decided so we could plan our day, its very frustrating. He doesn't really want to go over there, he's finally realised that il's house is not a happy place to be (I've only known that for awhile). We were right down the street today at the beach and he didn't want to go over there so I could use the bathroom. But he thinks that things would be "better" tomorrow becuase they're having a cookout so there should be other people there. But then again the last "cook out" we went to overt here was pretty much us and them. I think more people are starting to feel the way we do Its all so

Hopefully I'll get out to buy some postcards tomorrow, assuming that the shops are open

Hey - Wow Sheri - sounds like a nutty night. Too bad about the high chair. At least you found one! I'm hoping dh will build Ori a kinderzeat. Theyre' not that hard to build, he said, but of course that's before he's tried... ug.

I don't really mind getting flamed...it's such an incredibly complex question. And in the end, all we really have are our opinions and beliefs...so there is no real right or wrong. It's just better to know about how tough the decisions may be for someone before placing any judgement on them one way or another...kwim?

Ok, Ori is still awake, I think, and I'm SO tired. No afternoon nap for me today. I'm such a slug...and I can't even blame the weather! Oh well...caio mamas!

Rice overnight: Nothing to my DH. He eats it left in a pot for who knows how long...I totally object to this practice, and am not that into rice, and its one of his staple food, so its like its his personal pan of rice. But I remeber form microbiology that ris eis one of the foods that can create food poisioning, it can have spores that can be activated if left out...so technically rice is one of the worst foods for leaving out in a vegearian household....but he does it all the time and is apparently fine. His GI is very sensitive so he always notices stuff that makes him off....

The yogurt overnight, well the bacteria in yogurt are there to preserve the milk, thats what yogurt was all about, milk preservation sso that seems less gross. But I left yogurt in my cooler after I got back from the Keys and 2 days later dh unpacked my cooler (which had no ice it in- I just emptied fridge food to drive home and then forgot about it) for me, and put the yogurt away in the fridge. I asked about it and he said, oh yogurt is one of those things that never goes bad....yuck...two days in a cooler with no ice..it is actually fine I think, on the principal of live active cultrues, etc but it still is too gross for my tastes.

Somehow I missed hte post that is was lisa's Birthday! I hope you had an awesome one, and nice house time today, too.

Shari, whatkinda chair did you end up getting? Anyone lese want to comment on their baby seating get up? we need one. Iris still sits in the bassinet, on the bench seating, up next to the table. She's a bit big for it. She grabs for food, but also for plates, cups, paper, phone books, etc...I don't thin kits food she wants but something to chew. We started putting her baby dishes out for her to pplay wiht, and I did give her her first cup of non-breastmilk liquid today- an herb from the accupuncturist for her cold.

I'm gonna try the vegan mac n cheez recipes, the soul food vegan in St. Louis reminded me how good it can be. I wish I could get more of they um greens I had there!

Which reminds me Jessica, did you ever go to that place and tell the guy about homebirth midwives in the area?

Don't know about heat rash, but nakey butt time in the pool cures all...

Hey Mamas

Someone (Annie??) mentioned the Veg. Mothers cookbook. We have that one! DH bought it for me a year and a half before we conceived Tess and wrote a note at the time about his dreams about our "someday family". When we found out that we were pregnant, he gave it to me I can poke through it tomorrow and see what kinds of recipes it has in it!

: Lisa! I hope it was a good one!

Ugh... still hot and muggy. AC running at midnight, which I hate. Hate to use so much energy, but it's just way too uncomfortable without it.

We didn't end up doing anything too exciting today. Took a long walk this morning, then just veg'd around the house and yard this afternoon. Tomorrow we're going to BBQ with some friends and I'm still debating what to bring ~ tempeh & veggie kebobs or vegan caesar salad? Or maybe our favorite pasta salad.... decisions, decisions.

Good morning everyone! Seems mamas are getting to sleep in today (or at least not writing to tell the early morning tale)!

Heidi - now you're getting it! Lotsa little posts We have the Regalo hook on chair, 'cause our kitchen is kinda small. I think it only holds to about 25 lbs though. Well, ok, that's like forever away for us, but I know you mamas w/chubalicious babies are nearly there already! The kinderzeat is really a fabulous chair. REALLY! After that, it's all about the plastic and you need to go and fiddle with them to see what you like. some have a tray under the tray, some have wheels, some are easy one handed, others are easy clean up. I don't know of any that have all the wonderful features, but the Peg's tend to have more of them (for the $$). One big baby store for an hour would give you a lot of info...

Sheri - what did you get? We used to have a Graco for Beca, and it worked fine. She was a VERY messy little girl...she still is in fact :LOL

Kathy - sounds like a delicious day w/family! Yay!

I'm hearing some complaining from the baby corner... usually he just grabs his testicles and he's good for a few minutes... I guess he needs more this morning. Caio mamas!

I guess I should mention my bday isn't until Weds. But my super cool crunchy friend made me cake yesterday. Hmm.. My R key isn't working right, I have to go correct words all the time. And the cake was REALLY good.

Andy, nice posting on the bf/hiv. Dh and I have been talking about gov. rights v. parental choice recently. I think we'd have to leave the country or something if CPS got involved w/us.

Esp. since we've skipped vax, which is SUCH a relief to me now that Lauren has all these other issues with foods. Her poor little body is busy fighting itself on foods and more, I'm glad that I'm not adding another stress to it.

KEM - I'd say air him out, nakey time.

Annie, I woke up in the middle of the night saying "I have to ask Annie about that" and of course I have NO CLUE what I was thinking about, but there is this lingering thought about the urgent need to ask you something.

So this morning Lauren was on her belly and rooting on my shoulder/back and I rolled over to let her snack. Usually she'll lay on her belly, nurse 30 sec. and go back to sleep. Well this morning she pushed herself up into hands/knees and latched on from above and then plunked her head down on my chest facing the other way - so she was nursing with her head on my sternum and my poor nipple curled around to her. I ended up laying flat on my back and she fell asleep with her head on my chest, nipple in mouth, on hands and knees. I so wish I had a picture, it was like she crawled up to me and crashed. Not exactly the most comfy position for me to nurse her, but hysterical to see. I even tried to roll her over a bit so she'd be on her side and facing me, she wanted nothing to do with it, and pulled back to where she was and slept on. She's STILL sleeping now, and dh and I have been up for an hour.

Ok going to Target, we're out of laundry soap.

Oh yah, we have the Fisher Price Healthy something High Chair. It's comfy, not $$$$ but not cheap, seems sturdy enough, Lauren likes it, and it's got a vinyl seat cover instead of cloth - which will be nice when she's eating real foods. And there is a toy linky thing on the tray so the toys don't run away. It reclines too, for those mamas who MUST feed solids to their infants, I used to put Lauren in there and hang toys from the chandalier while I cooked. Now she insists on sitting up no matter what, and loves banging her spoon on the tray and yesterday she actually drank from a sippy. She's sucked on them before and gotten some liquid out, but most went down her shirt. This time she actually coordinated swallowing it. Just water from my cooler, but still, she enjoyed it a lot.

Going to target now. First I have to find a bra and put my hair up, it's sooooo dirty, ew!

hi mamas
9 am here in a house full of 11 people and mostly everyone is still asleep! too much partying last night?? we went to "the club" for dinner. kinda of a mini disaster. R was wearing jeans, which is not allowed, so bil brought him back home to change : then Luka slept in the sling but when he woke the restaurant was full and LOUD and he spent the evening in the lobby with different people holding him. oh well. it was a 3 bottle of wine dinner and we were all (well most ) a little sauced- was $$ yummy wine.

cool thing was that Marky Mark was there- you know, Mark Walhberg- Dirk Diggler from Boogie Nights. He has a 2 year old little daughter who Luka was fascinated with and I chatted with him about her. very cute little girl.

So luka's sitting has progressed majorly on this trip and the pillows around him are merely a formality. he doesn't fall very much anymore :

looks like he needs boob. happy holiday everyine!

Lisa - I felt the same way about the vax - that it is just way more than I was willing to input into such an immature system... I think, though, if I lived in a high contact area or did day care I'd reconsider at least some of them...kwim?

Karen - sounds like a festive time over there! WaHoo! Congrats to Luka! Sitting is SO much fun!

No tush shots...here

happy early birthday then, lisa!

thanks whoever it was that posted the reminder to put 'canada' on our postcards!

rice - dh doesn't eat rice, he's low carb. i did it once, though. Half a pot of rice left out, next morning I thought it'd be ok, and I was sooooo sick! It was like a 24 hr flu - vomitting, diarrhea ... yuck! It was a while before I could even eat rice again.

Geneva is so close to crawling, it won't be long now, I'm sure. yikes! so much to do to get ready for her mobility!

As far as cps, I wouldn't count on leaving the country! There's a case just ruled here last week:

http://www.starvingforthechildren.blogspot.com/

No reason has been given for why the infant was removed, and now the parents are in jail, seemingly only because they stood up to the authorities. They tried leaving the province/country and it didn't work...
Marky Mark! How did you recognize him? Karen, you're having the most interesting vacation! Thanks for the reports for those of us at home. I'm really glad the whole trip is working out.

Whew. Not much going on over here, really, just the usual craziness and no time to type. Bought BBLP's yesterday. Wanted white but could only find one store with them in town, so settled on blue. Tried 8 times so far, caught pees 6 times, which is pretty cool. Fiona will be excited when she comes tomorrow and we have two little BBLP's and a changing table (a cosleeper that we really never used . . . finally using it!). Ordered an EC book, but anything I need to know 'till it comes?

Polls, let's see, about leaving food out: DH is food-poisoning paranoid. He'd throw it out if it's been left more than 2 hours.

Uh, high chairs: Got two Peg Perego Prima Pappas from eBay. Bought junkers and then replaced the seats from Peg Perego. They're vinyl "leatherette." They don't feel as nasty as the vinyl seats on other high chairs, but I still woulda preferred cloth. Like the PP b/c they fold away, recline (put them in there to hang out if we're in the kitchen), adjust heights (Nana's short), & tuck under table if we don't want to use a tray.

Time to pee Carmen . . .

Phew, Lisa, I thought your b-day was wednesday. I remember that you said Lauren's GI appt was the same day. just in case I forget

Not much new here. Aine is still a bit wobbly on the sitting thing.

Karen - sounds like quite the trip!! I think it is hilarious that you saw Marky Mark (and that you wrote Dirk Diggler :LOL ) Hope you continue to have fun and excitement. Very cool about Luka's new super-powers...

You guys are all crazy with your ECing We have a bblp, but it is for Eamon. He is doing so well with the potty stuff. WE haven't had any misses in awhile. He is usually dry overnight also!! Woo Hoo---2yrs 2mo ain't too bad

FIL is visiting for the long weekend. It is interesting My parents came over last night to visit as well. It was a nice evening.

Annie- I am working on the body of the soaker right now. MY mom loved the yarn. She was very impressed!!

Heidi - you are right about the rice. My sis is a food guru (lots of education). She says stay away from rice that sits out. She said that is one of the big reasons sushi is dangerous. It isn't always the raw fish....
