There's a hole in my boobie dear liza dear liza...

Ack!
This kid has a totally different latch than Tristan. I finally figured out how to nurse her (it has to be football hold or else chomp). Now I have to heal. Thankfully, boob on the left although it's got a sore too, is fine to nurse on. I'm not flailing anymore when she latches. Boob on the right though (attention boobie as my son calls it) has a bigger more open sore. It's really awful. So I decided I need to stop nursing her with that boob, keep treating it with Lansinoh and pump after every left boob feeding. I hope this only takes a couple of days to heal; it already looks better. But there's something disconcerting about a sore on your nipple.. Just ouch.
She was taking both breasts but it seems like the one is already compensating and she's satisfied... so this is a good thing.
She has already gained back her birth weight. She was 8llb 5 oz at birth and is now (or as of Wed) 8lb 10oz. So no issues there!
We go to the doctor on Tuesday so I'm excited to see what she's weighing in at that point.
So, anyone else out there who thought they were a bf guru but are having trouble? I'm sort of embarrassed!!!
Take care!
Karen

OUCH!!!

This one is having trouble nursing at night & laying down, but otherwise he's doing well, latch-wise. Hope your boobie gets better!

Ah, Karen, your title cracked me up!

Nolan made my right breast awfull sore! He is able to nurse fine on the left but on the right it always looks like a lipstick tube when hes done! I had two blisters but I kept nursing and its getting better.

My bigger problem is that I can never remember which side I just nursed him on! I am in such a fog I just don't worry about it! Sometimes I remember sometimes I don't!

I'm so tired WAH!!!!

Angel,
I've heard to put a safety pin on your bra and switch it from side to side... Although I doubt many of us are wearing bras at this point! I was going braless until yesterday because I couldn't take it anymore. During engorgement there was no way, but for now it's fine even though I think my breasts could benefit from open air. At night I don't wear anything...
You could also mark your boob with lipstick or something (speaking of lipstick!)
I just don't get how an open sore is going to go away while you're nursing; getting it wet all the time, ya know? And I've been putting lansinoh on it a lot but that keeps it moist as well. I'm wondering if I should try to let it dry out.
I feel kind of jipped that she nurses so much differently from Tristan!!! It's really been a challenge. At least she's gaining very well. Even though her latch sucks to me, obviously it's working.
I just can't wait to fully enjoy nursing again. Especially with a newborn; they're so sweet with their grunts and faces and hands while nursing... I just don't want to be frustrated with her!
Anyhow I'm uploading some pics so I'm going to finish that (and my birth story!!)

Angel,
I keep a ponytail elastic on my wrist to remember which side I nursed on. I rarely wear a bra at home, so the safety pin didn't work for me.

Karenn, "i would definitely not suggest letting it dry out. I did that with dd, because she didn't seem to like the lansinoh. OMG. It hurt so much! With this baby, i slacked at first and didn't use the lansinoh the first couple of days, and my nipples would dry out and get "hard and crunchy" for lack of a better term. It hurt three times as much as when I would use the lansinoh and it would sort of stay soft. I had blood blisters on my right side, but if I put the lansinoh on there right after he nursed, they wouldn't get all scabby. It took about 11 days this time to nurse pain free, it only took 8 or nine with dd, but she was a lot more efficient. He has been hard to teach!

I have a stupid question. For those of you who don't wear bras, either during the day or overnight; what do you do about leakage? When I have let down, both boobs just spill all over the place :LOL Joey does pretty well with my violent let down, though :LOL

But seriously, even when I'm not nursing, when I'm watching TV or whatever I'll suddenly have let down and be spraying all over the place :LOL So, what do you guys do? Or am I a freak?

I have a letdown like that, Sha (which is why Cully got bathed yesterday--he pulled off and his head got *covered* in milk). I wear a bra so I can put pads in (I like the Avent pads), or a nursing tank top with a built in bra.
I can't go braless, I just end up soaked and changing my shirt a dozen times a day.

sharron anne- i am so happy for your question. i hate to wear a bra, but have been nervous about future droopage ect. My let down is not so strong. does this mean i can go without? i feel like i've worded that oddly, but you get it, right? mcs

If I could get away with not wearing a bra, I'd sure as heck not be wearing one, that's for sure. Future droopage be damned! :LOL

Emmy, I'm so glad you have the same issues. That means either, I'm not a freak, or you're a freak too. Either way, at least we're paddling the same canoe
