I got my new native sling today, and it kicks arse!! He curled up in it and went to sleep. I am still loving my baby bjorn, but for now he likes to be curled up.
I guess I have no excuse to not get off the couch now. :LOL

Sweet. The day before I last I finally figured out a way Elaina will be happy in the hotsling. We had such horrible trouble with trying to do cradle carry.. it was near impossible to get her in and hald the time I did get her in she hated it. But then I tried tummy to tummy and she loves it! I didn't think it would have head support for her but it does. Thank goodness.

I also have a sachi mei tai that should be here anytime... maybe today!! Can't wait to try that one out. Even with finding a position she likes in the hotsling it still hurts my shoulder/back after a while.

fey.. how do you do tummy to tummy in the hotsling? I've got the wise woman sling which is like a pouch, but adjustable... so I could probably do it in the ww... but not sure how? At first Istra hated the cradle carry too, but I figured out how to position her so that her head was closer to the edge and she didn't have material flopping over it all the time and she likes it better. She also likes it better now that she's taking a pacifier more consistently. :

emmy... we were thinking of getting a new native too... is it a stretchy one like a hotsling? we weren't too sure of the difference.

I've got a freehand mei tei and a gypsy mama gauze wrap coming in the mail any day now!!!

I have a stretch cotton hotsling... it isn't very stretchy:\ Not nearly so much as the sateen one I had to send back for a bigger size.

Anyhoo, I put the padded part on the outside and you know how you fold it to make a tube? Well I fold it so that the part with the padding is about a third bigger than the inner side. I line the big seam up about the middle of my body, still working that part out to figure what we like best. Then I put Elaina on my shoulder with the arm that's shoulder isn't under the sling, open the sling with the hand of the arm that -is- under the sling, and slide her down in.

I hope that made sense :LOL

I have some pictures. You'll have to excuse the lack of shirt ; just took these to show DH at work cause I was excited I found a hold we liked.

What's way cool is that I can NURSE her in this hold!! Couldn't do that with cradle. I just lean her over to the breast that isn't covered by the sling. I have to hold her head but hey, it's better than completely supporting her weight with my arm and I can walk around! Yay.

Oh, and I haven't tried it with her legs hanging out - when I do I'll switch to having the padded side on the inner side.

Elaina looks so cute in those pictures I hardly notice that you're not wearing a shirt. :LOL Except I did notice that we've got the same nursing bra.

Anyway, what are Elaina's legs doing in the sling? Is she just sort of sitting on them?

My sling doesn't have any padding... do you think I could still do the tummy to tummy?

And a most pressing question: does Elaina have red hair?! What a cutie. Certain members of my family think Istra is going to be a redhead, but I think she's going to be blonde... which is like a total novelty for me since I come from a family of all brunettes.

Elaina is a total cutie pie
Selena, I don't know how stretchy a hotsling is, but the new native seems pretty stretchy. And don't wear the bag about the pacifier--I would be happy if Cully would take one, but so far, only nipple will soothe him.

nak, toh

I love my new native, too, Emmy! I haven't used it yet with this babe but my last one lived in hers. I nursed her every where in it. Hopefully I can get her in it in a few days.

i have such sling envy... i've been using the same dumb nojo ring sling for 5 years running and have noooo budget for anything else...
i like hearing about which ones everyone likes best, though... maybe someday i shall upgrade.

Yeah, she's kind of sitting on her legs.. they're kind of in between her and me, all scrunched up. I bet you could do it or some variation in your sling, you should give it a shot at least! (if you haven't already... I didn't see this thread had new replies : )

Elaina's hair is dark brown. Her eyebrows are kind of reddish, and her hair does have red 'glints' in it.. just like mine, which is also real dark brown, glints red in the sun, and looks redder by the end of summer. I can't wait to see if it stays that color (mine has been this color since birth) and if she inherited daddy's curls or not...

In other news, I got my sachi mei tai on Saturday and LOVE it!! It's not as hard to get on as I thought it would be but it is kind of hard to take off - the straps are made of a fabric that is soft but kind of ribbed, so it 'grabs' and the knots are hard to undo, but that's a good thing too... I'm not worried about it accidentally coming untied. And I totally love the fabric, it's gorgeous. Will get a picture of it soon...

I've got Istra in a t2t carry right now and she is fast asleep. She definitely likes this better than the cradle carry as she's actually letting me sit down at the computer without fussing. Awesome. I think this will be good for nursing too!

I have a Mama Baby Sling from Maya and love it! I also have some slings I've made for myself, unpadded with rings I got at slingrings.com. OrganicBanana if you are crafty at all you can pick up a couple rings for less than $5 and some fabric and make a sling for usually less than $15, depending on the fabric - I save up my coupons and go to JoAnns on sale days and always get a good deal.
