Childrens Books

I bought Baby on the Way (Dr Sears) and its pretty cute. I though it had homebirth in it, but its really a birth center. I read it with DS and he was fascinated by the picture of the baby in the mamas belly. He even turned the book upside down, since the baby was upside down in the picture. And he kept looking from the book to my belly, like he was trying to figure it out.

Since DS has Aspergers (and is currently not talking to boot), its hard to know how much he is processing about this baby, so I wanted to get some books to help him understand.

Has anyone else found any good "baby is coming" books for their older kids that arent too mainstream?

No, but thanks for mentioning it. Ds has no clue...we keep talking about the baby and pointing to my tummy but he doesn't really make the connection. Today I had him put his hand on my belly to feel the kicks, but they aren't really strong enough or regular enough for him to feel. Maybe when I am bigger and the kicking is more obvious he'll sort of get it.

I want to check out that Sears book- looks good!

oh yeah... we've been reading everything on the baby coming. Both kids are into the baby (2/01 & 4/03). WE make a point of "reading" to the baby when we're reading our books. They loved the Dora is a big sister episode so that's helped with DD (2yo). We have a "Mommy's having a baby" book which is fantastic for my 4yo DS because it explains the baby growing/mommy's belly growing, baby being fed via umbilical cord,etc.. he's really into the book. Attachments.com has some homebirth books that I posted a while ago but I have yet to order one. Our midwife is fantastic about explaining the changes in baby to the kids as well. DD went to my appt this week with me and MW had a pillow with a 20week old fetus on it and held it to my belly to say "this is how big your baby is now." DD was WAY impressed (and she loves hearing the heartbeat!!)
