This may be in the wrong forum, so please forgive me if so. I figured that older homes are more common in the country than other places...

We live in an 1860 farmhouse in a rural area of NY. Our cellar is the old stone and dirt type, with a part concrete and part dirt floor. We have a dehumidifier running down there and have tried just keeping the windows open, but it continues to be "smelly." To the point that my mother and sister says they feel ill being in our kitchen. We have a large door sweep on the cellar door though. I usually don't smell it, but I am probably just used to it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kim
