Movies that freak you out

I watched Helter Skelter last night (the older version with Steve Railsback as Manson). The actor that played Manson was so believable that the movie still freaks me out. And talk about giving hippies a bad name. : Manson should be in his 70s now. He is truly one scary individual.

What other movies have freaked people out?

The Handmaid's Tale is my worst nightmare.

Oh...."The Mothman Prophecies." I get soooo scared even just remembering that movie. The worst part? Those five little words..."based on a true story." Yeeeeeshh!

I thought "the Others" was really scary.

There were a couple episodes of the X-files that really freaked me out too - they are called "Tooms" and "Squeeze" I think.

I love scary movies and shows, but I don't watch them very often because then I can't fall asleep! : :LOL

Two movies I will NEVER watch: Helter Skelter, & The Exorcist. Toooo creepy for me. And I am not the type to be easily creeped out by movies.

(I also cannot watch all of The Shining unless someone else is watching with me.)

I don't do scary movies very well, so take your pick.
The most recent one that affected me was The Grudge. I thought it would be okay since it was pg-13. To add insult to injury, dh, SIL, and SIL's boyfriend and I all went to see it and they teased me because I basically kept my eyes closed through the whole thing.
I was the one who wanted to see it. Don't ask. :

oh yeah, me too! we did a marathon of the x-files series and i still remember tooms. *shudder*

this is more of a movie character - "preacher cain" from poltergeist scares the dickens out of me! : it's been years and years since i've seen that movie, but i still get chills when i remember him walking around, softly singing "god is in his holy temple". now i'm going to be thinking about that all day!

House of 1000 Corpses literally traumatized me. It was days before I felt normal again- I never had pure evil of that depth inside my mind before. I know it wasn't real but...

The Ring screwed me up too. I was afraid of my TV for a while before I decided no one was going to crawl out of it, lol.

What Lies Beneath got to me really bad. I'm not sure why, but I couldn't get over it.

I was really disturbed by The Blair Witch Project for a long time... but it was more because when I saw it, it had first come out so everyone kept saying it was real footage.

I was also really disturbed by A Clockwork Orange, which really isn't horror but it's messed up in it's own right.

Also The Ring, Signs (stupid I know but the alien stuff scares me) Poltergeist, and even the commercials for White Noise scared me so badly I wouldn't see it.

I try to avoid watching scary movies because I have the type of mind that plays things over and over. I honestly will get traumatized from movies! It sounds ridiculous but I have to be careful.

On a side note, Charles Manson scares me.

The Blair Witch Project...I still have a hard time camping and I don't even camp where the movie took place (althoughI do live less then an hour from there and WILL NOT camp anywhere in my state ) - oh I should add that yes I do know that the movie is NOT real
The Ring - I still won't watch unmarked videotapes and freak if there is snow on the TV...I am such a loser

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original...the new one was pretty lame)

The Exorcist (I still have a hard time passing those steps in Georgetown *shudder* )

Oddly enough House of 1000 Corpses didn't scare me at all...I was very very disappointed in Rob Zombie

ETA - 28 Days Later also freaked me out...anything that COULD happen in real life always freaks me out

The Ring! White Noise was really scary too.

Oh yea, how did I forget about the Exorcist?

I remember begging to watch The Exorcist when I was in junior high. My mom finally gave in and I remember not being able to sleep for about a week. I was SO scared.

I watched The Exorcist at a slumber party when I was in junior high. I was way too cool to admit that it scared me, so I forced myself to watch the whole thing. I can still call up images from that movie to scare myself now!

Oh, The Ring scared me for weeks! I was scared to be home alone at night, and swore off scary movies after that (although I did see The Others, and agree that it was really scary, but it didn't disturb me like The Ring did).

Ladybug, I agree with you about that preacher guy! Creepy!

Ugh. The commercials for White Noise scared the living crap out of me- and I just woke up disoriented from a nap and went downstairs to go find DH- he's in the basement apartment with his friend and I see they're watching something, and I focus on it long enough to see/hear some scary stuff and ask "what's that?"
White Noise. Once I realized what it was + combined it with what I was seeing + the fact that it's based in truth- I RAN up the stairs and even did a little scream when I got to the top! and DH didn't come after me!!!! wtf?

28 days later - I read the screen play after I watched it in the hopes it would settle me down but I am still traumatized over it.

The first part of Jeepers Creepers (before you realize how insanely stupid it is) was phenomenally scary for me, I told my husband I wasn't sure I could even watch it, I was so scared.

I'm going to watch the Grudge tonight...

Pet Cemetery still scares me, I have always felt creeped out and have only willingly watched it twice. "NOW i want to play with YOU!" *EEEEK*!!!!!

The stupid "Child's Play" trailer that was on the radio when the movie first came out scared the bejeesus out of me.... "Chuuuuuuckie... Chuuuuuuuuuckie..."

Cat's Eye, still scared of that one.

Exorcist- oh yeah, love that one!

My list is too long to share here...

Not a scary movie but 8mm with Nicolas Cage seriously disturbed me. I didn't say a word or move for almost an hour after watching it.

Only two movies really got to me, Requiem For a Dream and Kids. But they are good movies...just made me need to shower afterwards.

A Clockwork Orange, more funny than disturbing, is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen.
