Messageboards...

A baby boy was born was born 5-31-05 to a woman I had discussed circumcision with on a general debate forum within a parenting message board system. A few days ago his momma posted this in one of the circ-related debate threads: "thanks to Jen I now have a perfect, whole, intact baby boy sleeping in my left arm! i had planned to have him circ'd until she asked me to research the facts for myself. too bad so many ppl just go with the flow"

It's so easy to become frustrated and exausted sharing the message with people who are unreceptive or even hostile to it...and we wonder if we are making a difference. WE ARE. I think for every person you hear from who changed their mind, there are probably MANY others who are rethinking or who also change their minds but will never mention it.

One of the things that sticks out most to me about what the mother I quoted above said is that what was most effective in her case was just sparking the curiosity. I think sometimes, this may be more helpful then posting an overwhelmingly huge list of links.

Just my thoughts. :-)

I am also someone whose mind was changed because of message boards. My first son was circumcised because I just didn't know any better. But after reading some posts and links on another board, my second son is intact!

Yeah, Sara! That's what keeps me posting--the hope that something that I write will make a difference to someone somewhere.
