Lovely visit with family

Istra and I just spent 5 days with my mom ... this was planned and I thought it would be nice. What wasn't planned, however, was that three other family members would also be there--2 aunts and my grandma. Usually this is okay... but it is no longer so since Istra is here. : Funny how people you liked before can suddenly become the most annoying creatures on earth.

Not only did they share all sorts of suggestions for the raising of my daughter, but they also shared their bacteria with both me and Istra. We are now both home with colds. I assume Istra has what I have, though I don't know for sure. I have a sore throat and the beginnings of a stuffy nose. Istra just won't stop crying and she is drooling a lot and not nursing well. She coughs occasionally, which she's never done before.

We took her temp and it's normal.

Is there anything I can give her to make her more comfortable? I feel so sorry for her.

Ugh, Selena, that sucks. I don't know what you can give a baby that young, but maybe you can take sone grapefruit seed extract or something and give your immune system a boost?

selena- that is too bad i am sorry for little istra and you too. I was so happy when i saw the name of your post- finally, i said to myself, someone w/ a nice easy family....i guess it really is just for the waltons. oh john boy....

I'm sorry the visit didn't go well and that poor Istra is snuffy. Sadly when there this young there is so little we can do for them when they get sick other than get them to nurse as much as possible. Maybe a little saline nasal spray and then suction her out with the bulb syringe will help her snuffles a bit?

Yeah, my family is not that bad, really... but it was a rough five days. I think it would have been better if DH had been there... but he had to stay behind to work. Next time I will have to make sure I don't go without him so he can protect me from my family.

I think Istra's cold will be better soon. She is at least nursing today, which is an improvement over yesterday. I still feel like crap, however, because I'm getting even less sleep than usual taking care of her all night. But enough complaining...
