Anyone turned their crib into a sidecar??

DD just moved from her crib-converted-to-toddler-bed into a big girl bed so instead of buying an Amby I'm thinking of sidecar-ing our crib.

My gf has done this both of her kids and loves it! She had a crib on each side at one point.

this is what we did it works great for us b/c mil bought the crib as a shower gift and we have a queen size bed. once ds started really moving in his sleep, we sidecarred the crib, giving us some much needed space w/o sacrificing cuddling and night nursing, and we got some use out of a piece of furniture we thought we'd never use

sorry poking my head in from december...how do you secure your crib to the bed? Curious because this seems like a great idea.

I sidecarred Kenna's for a few months. It was actually pretty secure just snugged up against our mattress. I have a two piece bumper and just used the single side of the bumper tucked between the crib mattress and my mattress. The crib mattress was just a little bit lower than ours, but that wasn't a problem. Kenna could crawl up into our bed and roll back into hers (she thought that was fun!)

I'm not sure what our new arrangement will be. Kenna sleeps with me most nights, though she's willing to sleep in her toddler bed which is in our room. I want a cradle or bassinet for the baby when he's little bitty and then we'll rearrange as necessary as he gets bigger.

We wedged our crib in a corner of the bedroom and pushed my side of the bed up against it. We shifted the crib mattress towards our mattress and rolled up a blanket REALLY TIGHT and wedged it in the space that was created between the crib mattress and the crib frame. I covered that blanket w/ our bumpers. We haven't secured the crib frame to our bed frame, and I'm glad we didn't. DS has a habit of dropping his pacis on the floor through this little hole at the top of the mattresses and not having them tied together, I can move my bed to get the pacis. There used to be a GREAT website that explained how to do all this, but I can't find it anymore :

We did this with both our girls when they got old enough to be unpleasant to sleep next to (we have what we call "active sleepers" :LOL who tend to kick, flail, and whack us in their sleep).

We bought a bucket of bungee cords at Target and I used them to secure the crib to the bed frame. Worked fine (we didn't have a convenient wall to buttress the crib up against). Also the level of the crib mattress was slightly lower than that of the bed, so it made a good little "lip" so the baby couldn't roll out of the crib.

I was thinking of doing this. I want to sleep near the baby but I have a terrible time sleeping with anyone else in the bed. So maybe if s/he is in his own little space and secure I can sleep better! Plus, we barely used the beautiful crib that MIL bought us, so I'd like to say that we got some more use out of it!
