Dissappointed in Mothering ad!

In the most recent Mothering Mag on page 16 is an ad for childrens' videos for kids as young as 6 months!
I don't care how educational it says i is... no baby 6 months old should be plopped in front of a TV!

I am HIGHLY disapointed in that ad as well as the one on page 26 that says that breastmilk just isn't good enough, so we need to give our babies Vitamin D drops. I am wondering, now, how long until there are formula ads.

I know, I saw both of those and had to recheck the cover to make sure I wasn't reading Parenting or American Baby.

UGH! I didn't notice that one! (Vit D). It drives me crazy... how about getting outside with your baby!
OT: I have been on other boards were parents are trying to get their babies to atch those "Baby Einstein" videos. I have argued long and hard that just spending time with them, reading or looking at books is better, but no one believs me.
I loved that Mothering was different... this makes me sad. The thought of someone strapping a 6 month old into their baby bouncy seat and sat in front of a video is sickening to me! I wish if they still needed the ad for money they could get them to change the ages... like 3-5 year olds or something. I mean even the AAP is against TV for kids less than 2! :

Yes, exactly. Are we really that hard up for ads? SURELY there's a better company that can buy ad space. Or in the VERY LEAST change the ages.

Someone should ask Peggy O'Mara about it at today's chat.

Is anyone going to the chat today who can bring it up? I can't go to this one.

Maybe not quite as shocking...and I'm not meaning to start a debate here, but I was also surprised that they listed a crib among "a few of our favorite products" on page 75. It's a bassinet that turns into a crib, then a toddler bed & then chairs. As a co-sleeping family, we wouldn't use anything but the chairs, and I sure as heck am not going to pay $699 for 2 chairs!

Thank you for reminding me of that. I was shocked by that also.
