Harry Potter: bad news about my favorite mum!

Goblet of Fire movie

"The Dursleys were cut from the film due to time constraints, as was Molly Weasly."

I'm bummed! Molly has a lot going on when Harry comes to live at the Warren. Perhaps that means the movie starts with Harry and the Weasleys going to the Quidditch World Cup and skips the whole part where he comes to live with the Weasleys.

I can't blame them for parring sub plots for time constraints. It's just something they have to do, especially since Rowling's books get bigger every time! But I still don't like it. Those sub plots go a long way towards filling out characters and filling in details about the wizarding world. And I was just so pleased for Harry when he got to go live with the Weasleys for a while. Finally, good people who treat him kindly! And Molly Weasley is such a warm, funny character and I love it when she explodes in anger at the twins or Ron or Arthur.

Oh well. Thanks for reading my ramblings. Just had to get that off my chest.

I just saw the third movie on DVD. It was GREAT! I thought the first two were so mediocre and disappointing. Cuaron really gets the book, so instead of duplicating every bit of the plot, he showed us a side of it. I am disappointed he's not directing the next one. I am not surprised that they cut the Weasleys, Cuaron did a much better job of their characterization than Chris Columbus.

I almost had a heart attack when I saw the title of the post..I thought "OH NO! IT'S TRUE!! MOLLY DOES DIE IN THE SIXTH BOOK!!!" Glad that's not true..

But it does stink that she isn't in the movie..SOmething in the book that was very important to me was when she hugs Harry in the hospital wing after he sees Cedric die. Harry says it's the first time he remembers anyone holding him like a mother would a child. THAT IS IMPORTANT PEOPLE!! Argh..

That's it! Harry gets to be a part of this big, crazy, warm family finally and it has to effect him.

Yeah that sucks! I love her character and hate to see her cut out(or not see her as the case may be). I am dying here for the movie to come out though. How can they cut out the ONLY mother figure :

Molly also plays a big role later when she comes as Harry's family to watch the 3rd task. Then, when Harry is grieving for what happened in the maze, she is the one who comforts him. This makes me really sad that she was cut. She's his mom, sorta, you know?

It's official, I've outed myself as a huge dork.

:LOL I hear ya...I do enjoy them but I think of them as a sort of supplement to the books. I don't think they stand very well on their own, you know?
